Student organisations across Jharkhand are preparing to march to the State Assembly on Friday as part of an expanded protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The demonstration, titled the “Vidhan Sabha March,” is scheduled to begin at 11 am and is expected to draw participants from different districts of the state.
Call for Greater Transparency
Organisers have appealed to students and government job aspirants from across Jharkhand to take part in the march in support of transparent recruitment practices. Protesters say their objective is to ensure that recruitment conducted by JPSC and JSSC remains free from corruption and that deserving candidates receive fair opportunities. According to the organisers, the movement is focused on protecting the interests and future of thousands of aspirants preparing for public sector jobs.
Protest Enters Fourteenth Day
Friday marks the 14th consecutive day of the ongoing agitation, which has steadily attracted support from several student organisations. The protest site at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi has become the centre of the movement, where students, youth groups, and representatives of various organisations have gathered to express solidarity with the demonstrators.
Participants have continued to emphasise the need for accountability in the state’s recruitment process. They argue that restoring confidence in government examinations requires transparent procedures and credible action on the concerns raised by candidates.
Key Demands Raised by Protesters
The student groups have reiterated that their primary demand is the cancellation of recruitment examinations they believe were affected by irregularities. They are also seeking the formation of a judicial inquiry to independently examine the allegations surrounding the recruitment process.
Organisers have clarified that the protest is not aimed at seeking the resignation of any individual. Instead, they say their focus remains on securing a fair investigation and ensuring that future recruitment examinations are conducted in a transparent and accountable manner.
Hunger Strike Continues Despite Rain
Student leader Devendra Mahto continued his indefinite hunger strike as the protest entered another day. Several demonstrators remained at the protest venue overnight despite continuous rainfall, maintaining that adverse weather conditions would not affect their campaign.
Protesters stated that they would continue their agitation until the authorities announce concrete measures addressing their concerns. They expressed confidence that sustained public participation would strengthen their demand for a fair recruitment system.
Organisers Describe Movement as Non-Political
Those leading the agitation have consistently described the campaign as a non-political movement driven by the interests of students and job seekers. According to the organisers, the protest is being sustained through voluntary public support rather than political backing.
They said meals, drinking water, and other essential supplies for participants have been arranged with assistance from local temples and social organisations. Organisers believe this community support reflects broader public concern over transparency and fairness in recruitment examinations across the state.
