Students – Rahul Gandhi Cleared to Hold Prayagraj Student Outreach After Venue Approval

Students –Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has received administrative approval to hold his proposed “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The decision comes after an earlier cancellation of the booking for the venue was reversed, allowing the student interaction event scheduled for August 8 to go ahead as planned.

Earlier Venue Cancellation Created Uncertainty

The programme had briefly faced uncertainty when the management of KP College withdrew permission for the use of its sports ground. The institution had initially approved the booking but later cancelled it, stating that academic activities should not be affected. The decision was linked to inputs received from the college administration as well as a previous Allahabad High Court order that emphasised ensuring educational activities continue without disruption.

A formal communication from Kayasth Pathshala’s acting president, Chaudhary Jitendra Nath Singh, informed the City Congress Committee that the earlier approval had been revoked. The management also asked organisers to collect the amount deposited for the venue booking following the cancellation.

Administrative Approval Restores Event Plans

Following discussions and administrative review, the earlier cancellation was revoked, clearing the way for Rahul Gandhi’s student outreach programme. With the permission restored, preparations for the August 8 event are expected to continue according to schedule.

The programme is aimed at interacting with students and discussing issues affecting higher education. It has attracted attention amid an ongoing debate over university policies and student concerns in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi Accuses Administration of Obstructing Programme

Before the approval was restored, Rahul Gandhi alleged that local authorities had attempted to prevent the event from taking place. In a message posted on X, he claimed that repeated efforts were being made to stop his visit to Prayagraj after he announced plans to meet students and hear their concerns directly.

According to Gandhi, students of Allahabad University have been protesting against fee increases and a reduction in available seats. He alleged that instead of engaging with the students’ demands, the administration had responded by registering police cases against protesters.

Congress Leader Raises Concerns Over Student Issues

Rahul Gandhi said the students were raising issues related to their academic future and deserved to be heard. Referring to demonstrations over university-related policies, he argued that action against protesting students was not the appropriate response to their concerns.

He further claimed that young people raising questions were facing administrative action rather than constructive dialogue. Gandhi also criticised the central government, alleging that voices of students and youth were being discouraged instead of being addressed through discussion.

Political Attention on Prayagraj Programme

The restoration of permission for the event has renewed political attention around the programme, which is expected to focus on education, student welfare and university-related concerns. The development follows several days of uncertainty over whether the interaction would be allowed to proceed.

With administrative approval now in place, the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” event is expected to move forward as scheduled, adding another chapter to the continuing political debate over student issues, higher education policies and public outreach in Uttar Pradesh.
