Mumbai Police – Police have initiated legal proceedings after a late-night birthday celebration held on a public road in Mumbai’s Borivali area gained widespread attention on social media.
Authorities in Mumbai have taken action against a group of individuals after a video showing them celebrating a birthday in the middle of a public road went viral online. The incident reportedly occurred near Sukhsagar Cooperative Housing Society in the Gorai-2 locality of Borivali, where the group allegedly disrupted traffic and created a public nuisance during the late-night gathering. Police said the matter came to their notice after the footage circulated across social media platforms, prompting an investigation into the incident.
Viral Video Leads to Police Investigation
According to police officials, the group had allegedly parked a four-wheeler across the road, blocking the passage of other vehicles before beginning the birthday celebration. The birthday cake was reportedly placed on the bonnet of the vehicle and cut while the group occupied the street. The video of the celebration quickly spread online, drawing criticism from residents and social media users over the disruption caused in a residential area.
Investigators reviewed the viral footage and identified several people who were present during the celebration. Based on the findings, police launched an operation to trace those involved and initiated legal action against the participants.
Air Gun Fired During Celebration
During the investigation, officials also found that one of the individuals allegedly fired a baby air gun into the air while the birthday celebration was underway. Although the weapon involved was reported to be a baby air gun, police treated the incident seriously because of its potential to create panic and endanger public safety.
Authorities stated that such actions, especially when carried out in public places during crowded gatherings, are viewed as violations of public order and can lead to legal consequences under applicable laws.
Main Accused and Others Taken Into Custody
Police identified the primary accused as 26-year-old Akash Ramphul Gupta. Along with him, nine other individuals were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Officials said the investigation is continuing to determine the role of each person who participated in the gathering.
The authorities also examined the circumstances surrounding the obstruction of the road and the conduct of those present at the scene. Statements and available evidence are being reviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Multiple Legal Provisions Invoked
The Borivali Police have registered a case against the main accused under several legal provisions. The charges include sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Motor Vehicles Act, the Maharashtra Police Act, and the Arms Act.
Police officials reiterated that public roads are meant for the movement of traffic and should not be used for private celebrations that inconvenience residents or put public safety at risk. They also reminded citizens that actions creating public disorder or violating traffic and safety regulations can result in legal action.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over celebrations being held on public streets and the role of social media in bringing such cases to the attention of law enforcement agencies.
