YouthEmpowerment – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre, known as Viveka Smaraka, at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama in Mysuru, Karnataka, on Saturday. The newly established centre has been created to encourage value-based education, leadership skills, personality development and a stronger sense of responsibility towards society among young people.
Centre Inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s Ideals
The Viveka Smaraka has been established to honour Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru in November 1892 during his nationwide journey. The institution has been envisioned as a place where young minds can learn from his teachings on character building, knowledge, self-discipline and service to society. Through educational programmes and leadership initiatives, the centre aims to help students and youth develop both personally and socially.
Ashrama Leaders Outline the Vision
Ahead of the inauguration, Swami Tyagishwarananda, Secretary of Ramakrishna Ashrama in Davanagere, said the centre’s primary purpose is to inspire the younger generation by introducing them to the timeless principles taught by Swami Vivekananda.
Speaking to IANS, he said that the Prime Minister’s emphasis on strengthening education, preserving India’s cultural heritage and expanding learning opportunities reflects a long-term commitment to the country’s development. According to him, these efforts have contributed to creating a stronger foundation for future generations.
He also explained that every initiative undertaken by the Ashrama is guided by its mission of encouraging personal growth alongside service to humanity. He noted that the country’s youth represent India’s future, making it essential to provide them with guidance, education and moral values that can help shape responsible citizens.
Focus on Character, Learning and Service
The cultural youth centre has been planned as a dedicated platform where students and young professionals can participate in educational activities, leadership workshops and personality development programmes. Organisers believe that such initiatives will help cultivate confidence, discipline and a spirit of public service among participants.
Swami Tyagishwarananda further said the institution follows the ideal of “Atmano Mokshartham Jagat Hitaya Cha,” which encourages individuals to pursue spiritual progress while contributing to the welfare of society. According to him, removing ignorance through education and self-improvement remains one of the central goals of the Ashrama’s work.
Warm Welcome for the Prime Minister
Swami Muktidananda, President of Mysuru Ramakrishna Ashrama, extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Modi ahead of the inauguration ceremony. He expressed happiness over the Prime Minister’s visit and described the occasion as an important milestone for the Ashrama and everyone associated with the project.
The newly developed facility includes dedicated spaces for learning, leadership training, cultural programmes and other activities aimed at motivating young people to play an active role in community development and nation-building.
Tight Security Arrangements Across Mysuru
Comprehensive security measures have been implemented across Mysuru before the Prime Minister’s visit. Police have deployed additional personnel at strategic locations and strengthened surveillance along the designated travel route, including Narayana Shastri Road.
Authorities have also installed barricades around the Viveka Smaraka premises, while final inspections were completed at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama before the inauguration. As part of the security protocol, public transport movement has been restricted on the Prime Minister’s route from noon to ensure smooth conduct of the official programme.

The inauguration of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre is expected to strengthen efforts aimed at promoting leadership, education, self-development and community service among India’s youth.
