Delhi Police – Jantar Mantar Remains Open for Authorised Peaceful Demonstrations

Delhi Police –Rumours circulating on social media about Jantar Mantar being closed for protests have been rejected by Delhi Police, which has confirmed that the venue continues to remain available for authorised peaceful demonstrations under existing legal procedures.

Police Reject Social Media Claims

The Delhi Police has dismissed reports circulating across social media platforms that claimed Jantar Mantar had been locked or shut down for public protests. According to the police, these claims are inaccurate and have no factual basis. Officials clarified that the designated protest venue continues to function normally and remains available for lawful gatherings after obtaining the required permission.

In a statement shared on X, the police urged people to avoid trusting or forwarding unverified posts. Authorities advised citizens to depend only on official announcements for reliable information regarding public demonstrations and security-related updates.

Permission Process Remains Unchanged

The police explained that demonstrations at Jantar Mantar continue to be regulated under the directions issued by the Supreme Court along with the Delhi Police’s Standard Operating Procedure. As per these guidelines, permission can be granted for assemblies of up to 1,000 participants.

Officials stated that organisers or individuals intending to hold a protest must submit a formal application to the competent authority. Approval is granted only after the request is examined and provided the applicants agree to comply with all prescribed conditions and legal requirements.

Clarification Follows Fresh Speculation

The latest clarification comes amid renewed speculation suggesting that supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) might return to Jantar Mantar for another demonstration. As these discussions gained attention online, several posts falsely claimed that access to the protest site had been restricted.

Delhi Police said there has been no decision to close the venue for authorised protests and reiterated that misleading information circulating on digital platforms should not be treated as authentic.

Previous Viral Claims Also Denied

This is not the first time the police have addressed misinformation related to recent protests in the national capital. Earlier this week, officials denied widely shared claims alleging that a protester had suffered a gunshot injury during the July 20 demonstration held at Jantar Mantar.

Authorities also rejected allegations that a truck had been intentionally positioned near the protest location before the CJP’s “Chalo Sansad” march. Police maintained that such claims lacked supporting evidence and were misleading.

Investigation Into Online Content Continues

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has initiated action against several social media accounts over posts that allegedly contained objectionable and abusive remarks directed at the Prime Minister and members of the security forces.

According to officials, investigators are examining photographs, videos and other digital material uploaded during and after the protests. The ongoing inquiry is being carried out using available electronic evidence.

Notices Issued to Social Media Platforms

As part of the investigation, notices have also been sent to X and other social media platforms. Police have asked these companies to remove the disputed content connected with the protest and provide details of the accounts responsible for uploading the material.

Officials said the investigation is continuing, and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the digital examination.
