StudentProtest – AAP Assures Support to Jantar Mantar Student Demonstrators Amid Threat Claims
StudentProtest – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has extended support to students who attended the recent Jantar Mantar protest, while the Delhi government has also announced a review of legal cases linked to the demonstration.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Friday said students who participated in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest at Jantar Mantar should not feel intimidated if they are facing threats. Addressing young people through a post on X, Bharadwaj alleged that some participants were being targeted by what he described as “right-wing goons” following the protest. He assured that the party was ready to stand by students who had taken part in the demonstration peacefully.
AAP Promises Assistance to Students
In his message, Bharadwaj urged students not to be afraid if they encountered intimidation after attending the protest. He said that those facing such situations could contact the party for assistance. According to his statement, AAP would ensure that students received support and protection if they experienced any form of harassment related to their participation in the gathering.
The appeal was specifically directed at young residents of Delhi, with Bharadwaj emphasizing that peaceful participation in a democratic protest should not become a reason for fear or pressure.
Kejriwal Backs Bharadwaj’s Statement
AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal publicly endorsed Bharadwaj’s remarks by reposting the message on X. Calling it a significant announcement, Kejriwal said the party would collectively respond to those allegedly attempting to intimidate students.
His response reflected the party’s position that individuals participating in peaceful public demonstrations should not face threats or undue pressure after exercising their democratic rights.
Delhi Government Announces Legal Review
The political statements followed an order issued a day earlier by the Delhi government’s Home Department regarding the protest. According to the official directive, authorities will not initiate any further adverse legal action against people who participated in the demonstration.
The order also stated that cases involving individuals who had already been arrested or detained during the protest would undergo a review. Officials have been instructed to consider their release through an expedited process wherever applicable.
The move is expected to provide relief to several participants whose cases remain under examination following the protest.
Criminal Cases Remain Outside Relief Measures
While announcing the review process, the Home Department clarified that the decision would not apply to everyone involved in the protest. The order specifically stated that legal action would continue against individuals with criminal backgrounds who were allegedly involved in the demonstration.
This distinction indicates that while relief measures are being considered for peaceful participants, authorities intend to proceed with action against those who fall under the specified category.
