Road Accident – Two Lives Lost After High-Speed Motorcycle Crash on Mumbai’s Mahim Causeway
Road Accident – A tragic road accident on Mumbai’s Mahim Causeway claimed the lives of a 50-year-old woman and a 21-year-old motorcycle rider on Tuesday night after a speeding bike struck the woman while she was crossing the road. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, including whether alcohol played any role in the crash.
Fatal Collision Reported on Mahim Causeway
According to officials from Mahim Police Station, the accident took place at approximately 9:20 p.m. on General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg near Mahim Causeway. The victims were identified as Mangala Tandel, 50, and Dhruv Manoj Gurav, 21, both residents of Mahim.
Investigators said Mangala Tandel was crossing the road with her two daughters to visit a relative living on the opposite side when a KTM motorcycle, reportedly travelling at a high speed, collided with her. The force of the impact caused severe injuries to both Tandel and the rider.
Family Member Witnesses the Aftermath
Mangala Tandel’s husband, Ashok Tandel, who is employed with Bank of Baroda, told police that he was inside his residence when he heard a loud noise from the road. As he rushed outside, he found his wife and the motorcyclist lying seriously injured on the roadway, while the damaged motorcycle was nearby.
Residents in the area quickly gathered at the scene and helped transport Mangala Tandel to Raheja Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival due to the severity of her injuries.
Rider Dies During Medical Treatment
The injured motorcycle rider, Dhruv Manoj Gurav, was first admitted to Bhabha Hospital for emergency treatment before being shifted to Raheja Hospital for advanced medical care. Despite the efforts of doctors, he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police officials confirmed that both fatalities occurred as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
Police Await Forensic Findings
As part of the investigation, Mahim Police have collected the rider’s blood sample for forensic examination. Authorities said the report will help determine whether Dhruv Gurav had consumed alcohol before the accident. Officials have not reached any conclusion on this aspect and are awaiting the laboratory findings.
The police stated that all relevant evidence, including forensic reports and witness statements, will be considered before the investigation is completed.
Case Registered Under BNS and Motor Vehicles Act
Based on a complaint lodged by Ashok Tandel, Mahim Police registered a case against the deceased rider under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with applicable provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
According to investigators, the motorcycle was allegedly being ridden in a rash and negligent manner at excessive speed, resulting in the fatal collision. Officers continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the sequence of events leading up to the accident.
Police have confirmed that further investigation remains in progress and additional findings will depend on the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
