Kargil – Uttarakhand Marks Kargil Vijay Diwas with Tribute Marathon in Dehradun
Kargil –Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the brave soldiers of the 1999 Kargil War by participating in a commemorative marathon in Dehradun, encouraging young people to remember the nation’s military heroes and draw inspiration from their courage.

The tribute event took place on Saturday at Shaurya Sthal in Chidbagh, Garhi Cantt, ahead of Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed every year on July 26. The marathon, titled “Run for Kargil Heroes,” was organised to honour the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Operation Vijay, the military campaign that enabled Indian Armed Forces to regain key positions from Pakistani intruders during the Kargil conflict in 1999.
Wreath Laid at War Memorial Before Marathon
Before inaugurating the marathon, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami offered floral tributes at the war memorial in memory of the fallen soldiers. Following the ceremony, he flagged off the event and later joined hundreds of participants, including young people, athletes, and local residents, by running alongside them as a mark of respect for the Kargil heroes.
The event highlighted the state’s continued efforts to preserve the legacy of the armed forces while promoting patriotism among the younger generation.
Chief Minister Remembers Historic Kargil Victory
Speaking to reporters after the marathon, Dhami reflected on India’s success in the Kargil War and praised the determination and bravery displayed by the country’s armed forces. He recalled that the victory was achieved during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, describing it as a defining moment in India’s military history.
According to the Chief Minister, the soldiers who fought in the conflict displayed extraordinary courage and made the nation proud through their sacrifice. He said their contribution would always remain an enduring source of inspiration for future generations and that the country would continue to remember their service with gratitude.
Remarks on Youth Development Initiatives
During his interaction with the media, Dhami also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on empowering young people through employment and development initiatives. He said the Central Government has consistently worked to expand opportunities for the country’s youth.
The Chief Minister stated that around 17 crore employment opportunities had been generated over the past 12 years and that nearly 12 lakh appointment letters had been distributed. He added that such initiatives would strengthen the confidence of young Indians and help them contribute more effectively to the nation’s progress.
Citizens Unite to Honour the Armed Forces
The “Run for Kargil Heroes” marathon formed an important part of Uttarakhand’s observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Participants from different sections of society gathered to express their respect for the soldiers who defended the country’s sovereignty during the Kargil conflict.
By bringing together citizens, students, athletes, and public representatives, the event served as a collective tribute to the dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of India’s armed forces. Organisers said the marathon was intended not only to commemorate the success of Operation Vijay but also to remind younger generations of the values of courage, patriotism, and national service demonstrated by the Kargil heroes
