ElectoralRoll – Uttarakhand Releases Draft Voter List, Verification Process Still Underway

ElectoralRoll – The Election Department in Uttarakhand has published the draft electoral roll after completing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR), showing a total of 71,33,785 registered voters across the state. The newly released draft reflects a noticeable decline compared with the final electoral roll prepared ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections, which had recorded nearly 79.58 lakh electors. Officials have clarified that the current figures are provisional and may change after the completion of the claims and objections process.

Uttarakhand draft electoral roll verification

Draft Roll Open for Public Review

Election authorities have asked residents to carefully review the draft electoral roll and verify whether their personal details have been recorded correctly. Citizens can request the inclusion of missing names, correction of inaccurate information, or deletion of invalid entries until August 13. Once every application is examined and verified, the final electoral roll is expected to be published on September 15.

Officials emphasized that the draft list should not be considered the final record, as additions and corrections will continue during the verification period.

Door-to-Door Verification Completed

According to Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Vijay Kumar Jogdande, booth-level officers carried out an extensive door-to-door verification drive between June 8 and July 7. During this exercise, enumeration forms were collected from households and later uploaded to the official election database.

The draft electoral roll has also been made available on the Chief Electoral Officer’s official website for public access. Voters have been encouraged to check essential details such as their name, address, age, and other personal information and submit correction requests if required within the prescribed timeline.

Large Number of Records Under Examination

The revision exercise identified discrepancies in 19,04,380 voter records across Uttarakhand. In addition, officials said verification could not be completed for around 10.39 percent of the electorate during the field survey.

Despite these figures, election authorities stressed that many records may still be corrected after proper document verification. Eligible voters whose names are currently absent from the draft list can still be added before the final publication, while duplicate entries, incorrect records, and names of deceased voters may also be removed after following the prescribed legal process.

Forms Available for Different Requests

The Election Department has outlined separate application forms for various voter-related services. Individuals seeking to register their names in the electoral roll can submit Form 6. Those requesting the removal of a deceased person’s name or raising objections regarding an existing entry may use Form 7. Meanwhile, Form 8 is available for correcting details such as name, address, age, or other personal information.

Officials also noted that Annexure 4 remains a mandatory document for applications submitted through Forms 6 and 8. Citizens have the option of submitting their applications either through their respective booth-level officers or digitally using the ECINet application.

Dehradun Reports Highest Number of Flagged Entries

District-wise data released with the draft electoral roll shows that Dehradun recorded the highest number of voter records requiring further examination. Out of 11,90,805 registered electors in the district, discrepancies were identified in 3,95,868 entries.

Haridwar followed with 3,90,312 flagged records among its 12,46,219 voters, while Udham Singh Nagar reported 3,36,164 records requiring verification from a total electorate of 11,55,672.

Authorities Urge Citizens to Verify Details

The Election Department has appealed to residents not to assume that the absence of a name from the draft roll means permanent removal. Officials said the claims and objections period has been specifically provided to allow eligible voters to correct mistakes and ensure accurate inclusion before the final electoral roll is published in September.

The department believes public participation during this verification stage will help improve the accuracy of the electoral database and ensure that eligible citizens are able to exercise their voting rights during future elections.
