Ayodhya Donations – Ramdev Backs Probe Into Alleged Ram Mandir Donation Misuse
Ayodhya Donations – Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has voiced confidence in the investigation into the alleged misuse of donations collected for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, saying the Uttar Pradesh government is handling the case appropriately. He stated that those found responsible for any wrongdoing would ultimately face legal consequences and be sent to jail.

Ramdev Calls Arrests a Positive Development
While speaking on Monday, Ramdev said the arrests made in the case so far indicate that the investigation is moving in the right direction. According to him, further action against those allegedly involved would discourage similar offences in the future. He maintained that theft is a serious offence regardless of where it takes place and said strict punishment is necessary to prevent such crimes.
He also described the alleged misappropriation of temple donations as a matter with moral and spiritual implications. Referring to places of worship, Ramdev said that taking money meant for religious purposes is not only a legal offence but also an act with deep ethical consequences. He added that anyone found guilty should be held accountable under the law.
Remarks on National Identity and Conduct
During the interaction, Ramdev also spoke about the broader issue of national identity. He said that the idea of a Hindu Rashtra cannot be achieved simply by passing legislation but must be reflected through the behaviour and values of the people.
He emphasised that humanity, respect for shared ancestry, and adherence to constitutional principles are essential. According to Ramdev, the country’s unity, integrity, sovereignty, and the Constitution remain of the highest importance. He further said that citizens should draw inspiration from the values of their ancestors and uphold responsible conduct in everyday life.
Congress Intensifies Political Criticism
The issue also triggered political reactions, with Congress General Secretary in-charge of Communications Jairam Ramesh renewing the party’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on X, Ramesh questioned the Prime Minister’s silence over the allegations concerning donations received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Ramesh said Congress leaders had addressed around 50 press conferences across the country over the previous four days on the matter. He alleged that the government had failed to respond adequately to public concerns regarding the reported financial irregularities and sought clarification on the Centre’s position.
Court Extends Judicial Custody of Accused
Meanwhile, an Ayodhya court extended the judicial custody of all eight accused in the alleged donation embezzlement case by another 14 days on Monday. The accused appeared before the court through video conferencing and are scheduled to appear again on July 27 as the legal proceedings continue.
Investigating Officer Ashutosh Tiwari also submitted documents and evidence gathered during the remand period of three accused before Ayodhya’s Anti-Corruption Court, according to sources. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue examining financial records and related material connected with the case.
Supreme Court Seeks Responses
Separately, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Central government, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on petitions seeking an independent, court-monitored investigation into the alleged misappropriation of donations collected for the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya.
The petitions request an impartial inquiry under judicial supervision into the handling of donated funds. The responses sought by the apex court are expected to play a significant role in determining the next phase of the legal process surrounding the allegations.
