Infrastructure – Centre Clears Rs 1,647 Crore Delhi Development Projects Under SASCI Scheme
Infrastructure – The Union government has approved 28 major infrastructure proposals submitted by the Delhi government under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, paving the way for projects worth nearly Rs 1,647 crore. Along with the project approvals, Delhi has also secured an additional incentive of Rs 756 crore in recognition of its efforts to increase capital expenditure through its own financial resources. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the decision would strengthen the city’s development agenda and improve essential public infrastructure for residents.

Centre Extends Financial Support for Infrastructure Expansion
According to the Chief Minister, the approved funding will help fast-track several important infrastructure works planned across the national capital. The SASCI scheme provides interest-free financial assistance to states and Union Territories for capital projects that contribute to long-term public development. The programme also encourages governments to improve capital investment while implementing structural reforms that support sustainable growth.
The approval is expected to provide a significant boost to Delhi’s ongoing infrastructure plans, allowing departments to move ahead with projects designed to improve transportation, connectivity and civic amenities.
Wide Range of Projects Receive Approval
Among the projects cleared under the scheme are several initiatives aimed at improving urban mobility and transport infrastructure. These include Metro-related works, construction of the Barapullah elevated corridor, the Karawal Nagar flyover, installation of electric vehicle charging stations at Delhi Transport Corporation depots, and multiple road development projects.
Officials believe these projects will help reduce traffic congestion, strengthen transport networks and encourage the adoption of cleaner mobility solutions. The expansion of charging infrastructure is also expected to support the growing use of electric vehicles in the capital.
Additional Incentive Rewards Higher Capital Spending
Besides approving the proposed projects, the Centre has sanctioned an incentive package of Rs 756 crore for Delhi. The incentive has been awarded after acknowledging the government’s commitment to increasing capital expenditure through its own budgetary resources.
Capital expenditure is generally directed toward creating long-term public assets such as roads, bridges, transport systems and other civic infrastructure. Higher investment in these areas is considered essential for supporting economic activity while improving the quality of public services.
Chief Minister Highlights Development Benefits
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed the approvals and said the financial support would help speed up important development works across Delhi. She noted that improved infrastructure would ultimately benefit residents by providing better transport facilities, upgraded public amenities and more efficient urban services.
She also stated that her government had consistently pursued approval for Delhi’s infrastructure proposals under the SASCI programme since taking office. The latest decision, she said, reflects constructive cooperation between the Centre and the Delhi government in advancing projects that are expected to deliver long-term benefits to the city.
With the funding now approved, the focus is expected to shift toward timely execution of the sanctioned projects so that planned infrastructure improvements can be completed within the scheduled timelines and provide lasting value for citizens.
