NCC – New Rifle Training Simulator Strengthens Cadet Development in North Andhra

NCC –  North Andhra’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) training network received a major upgrade on Friday with the inauguration of a .22 Rifle Firing Simulator at AITAM Engineering College in Tekkali, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district. The facility was formally opened by Commodore Sumanta Roy, Group Commander of NCC Visakhapatnam, marking an important step toward improving practical shooting training for cadets in the region.

Modern Training Facility Introduced for Cadets

The newly installed firing simulator has been designed to help NCC cadets develop rifle handling techniques in a controlled and safe environment before participating in live firing exercises. According to Commodore Roy, the advanced system will strengthen marksmanship training while giving students valuable practical exposure that supports their overall skill development.

The college administration stated that former servicemen Ramanaiah and Bhujanga Rao will oversee the .22 Rifle Firing training programme, bringing their professional experience to guide cadets through structured practice sessions.

Focus on Leadership and Career Development

While interacting with district-level NCC cadets, Commodore Roy highlighted that the organisation plays a much larger role than military-style training. He explained that participation in NCC encourages discipline, leadership, self-confidence and a strong sense of responsibility toward the nation.

He noted that these qualities prove valuable not only in defence services but also in higher education and professional careers across multiple sectors. According to him, the training helps young people develop essential life skills such as effective time management, teamwork and decision-making, which remain useful regardless of the profession they eventually choose.

NCC Certificates Offer Recruitment Advantages

During the interaction, Commodore Roy also explained the benefits available to cadets who earn NCC certificates. He informed students that certificate holders receive reservation benefits, additional weightage and special consideration during recruitment in the Indian Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, various State Police organisations and several government recruitment processes.

Cadets attending the session raised questions related to defence careers, recruitment procedures and training requirements. Addressing their concerns, Commodore Roy encouraged them to stay committed to continuous learning and personal development throughout their NCC journey.

Character Building Remains the Core Objective

Speaking about the broader purpose of NCC, Commodore Roy remarked that the organisation is not merely about wearing a uniform but about developing character and building the confidence needed to face future challenges. He advised cadets to maintain a healthy balance between academic studies and NCC activities, saying that both together contribute significantly to personal growth and future leadership opportunities.

He further emphasised that the values cultivated through NCC training prepare students to take up responsible positions in society while strengthening their ability to perform under pressure.

Regular Career Workshops Planned

As part of future initiatives, Commodore Roy announced plans to organise regular 10-day workshops for NCC cadets. These programmes will focus on helping students prepare for careers in the defence services by providing guidance on examinations, selection procedures and other aspects of recruitment.

The event was attended by Commanding Officer of 14(A) Battalion NCC Srikakulam Colonel Shashank Kushwaha, Administrative Officer Lt Colonel Pradeep K. Menon, Subedar Major Balwant Singh, AITAM Director Prof. V. V. Nageswara Rao, Principal Dr. A. S. Srinivasa Rao, NCC Coordinator Prof. Dr. D. Vishnu Murthy, Major Mahesh, faculty members and district-level NCC cadets.
