Operation Safed Sagar – Netflix Unveils Kargil War Drama Releasing This August
Operation Safed Sagar – Netflix is set to introduce a new military drama inspired by a landmark chapter in India’s defence history. The series, Operation Safed Sagar, will make its global debut on August 7, bringing to screen the story of one of the Indian Air Force’s most demanding wartime missions during the 1999 Kargil conflict.

Story Inspired by the Kargil War
Directed by Oni Sen, the series is based on Operation Safed Sagar, the Indian Air Force’s aerial campaign carried out during the Kargil War. Rather than focusing only on combat, the drama highlights the lives of the officers who took part in the mission, particularly the Golden Arrows Squadron, whose efforts played a significant role under extremely difficult conditions. The narrative explores their determination, commitment and personal sacrifices while presenting an important chapter of India’s military history.
The show features an ensemble cast led by Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Dia Mirza and Adil Hussain. Supporting performances come from Abhay Verma, Prajakta Koli, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin and Amrita Bagchi.
Creators Aim for Authentic Storytelling
The series has been created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, with production handled by Matchbox Shots LLP and Feel Good Films. Producer Sanjay Routray said the project was developed with the intention of portraying an important national story with honesty and scale. According to him, the script immediately stood out because of its extensive research and its ability to combine large-scale military action with emotionally driven human stories.
Routray noted that while the series showcases wartime operations, it also pays equal attention to the courage, humanity and sense of duty displayed by those who served during the conflict.
Real Experiences Shaped the Narrative
Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Mehboob Pal Singh Brar of Feel Good Films said the opportunity to explore the lives of Indian Air Force personnel inspired them to bring the project to life. They credited co-creator Kushal Srivastava’s background in the Air Force for providing valuable insights into a world rarely seen by the public.
The creators explained that their research extended beyond military missions to include the experiences of pilots, their families and colleagues. As the story evolved, they found that themes such as friendship, leadership, sacrifice and difficult decisions became central to the narrative, giving the series an emotional foundation alongside its action sequences.
Large-Scale Production Across Multiple Locations
To recreate the atmosphere of the Kargil conflict, the production team filmed at more than 100 locations. Some sequences were shot at altitudes exceeding 16,000 feet to capture the challenging terrain associated with the conflict. The makers also employed extensive visual effects and assembled a large cast to deliver a cinematic experience while maintaining focus on the personal journeys of the characters.
The producers said balancing realism with emotional storytelling remained a priority throughout the filming process.
Netflix Highlights Historic Military Story
Netflix India Series Head Tanya Bami described Operation Safed Sagar as a unique project inspired by the Indian Air Force’s contribution during the Kargil War. She said the series serves as a tribute to the bravery, teamwork and sacrifices made by the Golden Arrows Squadron while protecting the country’s borders.
Bami added that the production offers viewers a rare look into the professional and personal lives of Air Force pilots, highlighting the quick decisions and responsibilities they face during military operations. She also pointed to the show’s high production standards, visual effects and cinematic presentation, saying these elements combine to deliver an immersive viewing experience for audiences around the world.
