Vijayendra Kumeria – Actor Hopes Television Moves Beyond Old Dramatic Tropes

Vijayendra Kumeria –  Vijayendra Kumeria, who has spent around 15 years in the television industry, believes Indian serials have changed significantly over time. The actor says he would not want several familiar storytelling devices from earlier television eras to return, including sudden wedding twists, exaggerated family conflicts and repeated dramatic camera movements.

Actor reflects on familiar television formulas

Kumeria, who began his television journey with Chotti Bahu 2 – Sawar Ke Rang Rachi in 2011, spoke about some of the clichés that once appeared regularly in daily soaps. He referred to abrupt marriage plots and domestic scenes built around minor arguments, such as disputes over food preparation or household matters.

According to the actor, such tracks were once common in television dramas, but he feels many of them have gradually faded from mainstream storytelling. He said the industry has moved forward and is now exploring a wider range of subjects and character-driven narratives.

Changing approach to television drama

The 39-year-old actor also recalled the highly stylised presentation often associated with older serials. These scenes typically featured raised voices, intense reactions and repeated close-up shots designed to heighten emotion.

Kumeria acknowledged that this format may still be used in some programmes, but said television has undergone considerable change. He expressed hope that excessive dramatic treatment, including constant zoom-ins and overdone emotional sequences, does not become a dominant feature of television again.

His comments reflect a broader shift in the entertainment industry, where viewers are increasingly responding to stories that focus on realistic situations, layered characters and more restrained performances.

Vijayendra Kumeria appears in Juhi Mui

Kumeria is currently seen with Eisha Singh in the television show Juhi Mui. The series follows Juhi Suri, a talented young autistic woman whose intelligence becomes one of her strongest qualities in a society that often struggles to understand her perspective.

The show places Juhi at the centre of a difficult emotional journey. In the current storyline, she is dealing with the death of her father, who had protected her from many of the challenges and prejudices around her.

With his character now part of the show’s ongoing narrative, Kumeria’s return to television comes through a story that focuses on emotional loss, family relationships and the experiences of a young woman navigating life after a major personal tragedy.

Show explores grief and social understanding

Juhi Mui presents its lead character as someone with exceptional abilities while also highlighting the social barriers faced by people who are often misunderstood. The current episodes explore how Juhi copes with grief after losing the person who had been her strongest source of support.

The programme uses her journey to examine emotional resilience and the impact of family support during difficult times. As the story progresses, Juhi must confront a world that feels more uncertain following her father’s death.

Kumeria’s observations about television clichés come at a time when many serials are attempting to balance traditional family drama with stories that address personal struggles and social themes. While familiar formats continue to have an audience, actors and creators are increasingly looking at ways to make television narratives more relatable.

Juhi Mui is broadcast on Colors.
