Cryptocurrency – Trump Says US Must Lead Digital Assets and AI Growth

Cryptocurrency – US President Donald Trump has called cryptocurrency a strategic sector for the United States, saying the country must maintain a strong position in digital assets or risk allowing China to gain influence in a rapidly expanding part of global finance.

Cryptocurrency trump us digital assets ai growth

Speaking at the White House during an event for the launch of the Trump Accounts programme, Trump spent a significant part of his address discussing cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence. He described both industries as important to the country’s long-term economic strength, innovation capacity and global competitiveness.

Trump Presents Crypto as a National Technology Priority

Trump said his support for cryptocurrency is closely linked to competition with China. According to him, the United States cannot afford to stay behind as digital currencies, blockchain services and related financial technologies become more widely used.

He said China would move quickly to strengthen its position in the sector if the United States did not take an active role. Trump argued that American leadership in cryptocurrency had already changed the competitive landscape and reduced Beijing’s ability to dominate the market.

The President described crypto as a major industry that has grown far beyond its early stage, with increasing importance for investors, businesses and technology companies. He said the sector’s size and influence had made it necessary for the US government to take a more supportive approach.

President Says His View of Digital Assets Changed Over Time

Trump said he was not initially deeply involved in cryptocurrency policy and had limited knowledge of the industry during parts of his first term. However, he said he watched the market develop and came to see its broader significance.

He noted that digital assets had become an important part of the financial technology landscape, drawing interest from entrepreneurs, investment firms and consumers. Trump said the growth of the industry convinced him that the United States should encourage innovation rather than allow other countries to establish an early advantage.

His comments reflect a wider political debate in Washington over how cryptocurrency should be regulated, taxed and integrated into the financial system. Supporters of the industry have argued for clearer rules, while critics have raised concerns about investor protection, financial crime and market volatility.

Criticism of Previous US Crypto Policies

Trump also criticised the approach taken by the previous administration toward cryptocurrency. He said the Biden administration had opposed the sector and created an environment that made it difficult for crypto businesses to operate in the United States.

The President claimed that enforcement actions and regulatory pressure had discouraged companies involved in digital assets. He argued that such measures could push innovation, investment and technology jobs to other countries.

Trump said the US should develop policies that support responsible growth in cryptocurrency while ensuring that the country remains competitive in emerging financial technologies. He added that the industry’s expansion had made it economically and politically significant.

AI Expansion Requires More Power and Computing Capacity

Alongside cryptocurrency, Trump highlighted artificial intelligence as another major area of competition between the United States and China. He said the US currently holds an advantage in AI development but must continue building the infrastructure needed to protect that position.

Trump said artificial intelligence requires a large increase in electricity generation because data centres and high-performance computing facilities consume significant amounts of power. He said the country would need to expand its energy supply substantially to meet future demand from AI companies.

The administration, he said, has moved to speed up approvals for businesses seeking to build power facilities near AI operations. The goal is to provide reliable electricity for large-scale computing projects without delaying technology investment.

Nuclear Energy Promoted for Future AI Demand

Trump also pointed to nuclear energy as a possible solution for the growing power needs of artificial intelligence. He said modern nuclear technology has become more attractive as companies and governments look for dependable energy sources.

He described nuclear power as an increasingly important option for supporting AI infrastructure and recalled discussions with his uncle, whom he said had expertise in nuclear science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Trump’s remarks underline his administration’s effort to link cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, energy policy and national competition into a broader technology strategy focused on maintaining US leadership.
