DMK MLA Bail – Anitha R Radhakrishnan Secures Relief in Defamation Case
DMK MLA Bail – DMK MLA Anitha R Radhakrishnan was granted bail on Saturday by the Judicial Magistrate Court in Chidambaram in connection with a case over remarks allegedly made against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Vijay Joseph at a public gathering on June 20.

Arrest linked to Athoor police case
Radhakrishnan was arrested on Friday after a case was registered against him at the Athoor Police Station. Police invoked Sections 352 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deal with allegations involving statements that could lead to a breach of peace.
The case centres on comments allegedly made by the legislator during a public meeting. Following the court’s order, he was released on bail, while the legal proceedings in the matter are expected to continue.
MLA alleges pressure to leave DMK
Soon after his arrest, Radhakrishnan claimed that the action against him was politically motivated. He alleged that efforts were being made to persuade him to resign as an MLA and join the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
According to the DMK leader, he had been offered support if he chose to leave his present party. He rejected the alleged proposal and said he would remain with the DMK.
“It was not horse-trading, but camel-trading that was offered to me; it will never happen,” he said while speaking to reporters.
Loyalty to party leadership reaffirmed
Radhakrishnan said his political career had been shaped by years of work within the DMK and maintained that he had no intention of changing parties. He reiterated his support for DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin, saying pressure or inducements would not influence his decision.
The MLA stated that his association with the party was based on political commitment and public service rather than personal or financial considerations. His comments came amid growing political attention around the recently formed TVK and its possible outreach to leaders from established parties in the state.
Claim over notice and arrest procedure
Radhakrishnan also questioned the manner in which he was arrested. He said he had informed the authorities that he would cooperate with the investigation and appear before police on July 10 in response to a notice issued under Section 41A.
He alleged that the arrest was carried out despite his willingness to comply with the notice. According to him, the decision to take him into custody before the scheduled appearance was intended to create pressure.
Police have not publicly responded in detail to his allegations regarding the arrest procedure or his claims of political coercion.
Concerns raised over constituency issues
During his interaction with the media, Radhakrishnan also raised concerns about law and order issues in his Srivaikuntam constituency. He alleged that illegal lottery operations, ganja trafficking and criminal activities required stronger attention from the administration.
The legislator said authorities should focus on addressing local public concerns instead of concentrating on political disputes. His remarks added another layer to the controversy surrounding his arrest and subsequent bail.
The case is likely to remain under scrutiny as the investigation moves forward and political parties respond to the allegations made by the DMK MLA.
