Explosion reported during evening drilling work

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at the Echo Sand Quarry on Hirenagavalli Hill. Police identified the deceased as Nagendra, a resident of Dharmavaram in Andhra Pradesh who had been employed at the site.

Officials said the blast happened while drilling operations were under way. Nagendra suffered severe injuries in the explosion and was initially taken for emergency care before being referred to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru. Despite medical treatment, he later died from his injuries.

Police begin investigation into quarry death

Peresandra Police Station has registered a case and launched an investigation to establish how the explosion occurred. Officers are expected to examine the work procedures followed at the quarry, the equipment used during drilling, and whether required safety measures were in place at the time.

No further details regarding other workers at the site or the exact cause of the blast were immediately available. Authorities have not yet indicated whether any lapses contributed to the accident.

The death has drawn attention to safety conditions at quarry and mining sites, where drilling and blasting work can involve significant risk if equipment, handling procedures, or supervision do not meet required standards.

Three killed after wall collapses in Mangaluru

In a separate incident, three people, including two children and a woman, died after a wall collapsed on rented homes in the Garodi area of Mangaluru early Wednesday, local residents said.

The collapse took place within the limits of Kankanady Police Station at about 4:30 am. Residents said many people were asleep when the structure gave way, trapping occupants beneath the debris.

A resident who lived nearby said a sudden loud sound woke people in the area. The resident reported being struck by a piece of the falling wall and said the rear exit of the house became blocked after the collapse.

Rescue teams pull survivors from debris

According to the resident, neighbours rushed outside after hearing the noise, but several people inside the affected homes were unable to move because they had been buried under rubble.

National Disaster Response Force personnel reportedly reached the location at around 5 am and began rescue work. The team pulled two children out alive, while two other children were found dead beneath the debris.

A woman also died in the incident. Her husband was rescued and admitted to hospital for treatment, according to information shared by residents at the scene.

Authorities assess damage and casualties

The circumstances that led to the wall collapse were not immediately clear. Police and local authorities are expected to assess the condition of the damaged structure and determine whether weather conditions, construction issues, or other factors played a role.

Both incidents underline the dangers faced by workers and residents in locations where structural safety and workplace safeguards are critical. Investigations are continuing in Chikkaballapur and Mangaluru, and authorities are likely to provide further updates as inquiries progress.
