Sana Saeed – Actress Discusses Accent Training and Life in Los Angeles
Sana Saeed – Actor Sana Saeed has spoken about the communication difficulties she encountered after moving to the United States, recalling how unfamiliar pronunciation patterns initially made everyday conversations challenging.

A Restaurant Encounter That Stayed With Her
In a video shared on Instagram, Saeed remembered arriving in Los Angeles in 2016 to study. During an early visit to a restaurant, she repeatedly asked for water but found that the staff member struggled to understand what she was saying.
According to the actor, she repeated the request several times before the person offered her a soda instead. The incident made her realise that adapting to a different speaking style would be important if she planned to build a life in the city.
Why Clear Communication Became Important
Saeed said the experience encouraged her to work on her pronunciation and communication. She explained that being understood became especially significant because acting depends heavily on voice, expression and the ability to connect with people.
The actor said she underwent training and put considerable effort into improving how clearly she spoke. She also questioned why people are often criticised for changing their accents, noting that the process can involve discipline and practice.
For Saeed, the effort was never about rejecting her original way of speaking. Instead, she described it as a professional choice that helped her feel more confident in unfamiliar environments.
Responding to Questions About Her Accent
The former child actor said she decided to address the subject after seeing comments on one of her earlier social media posts. Some users had questioned the change in her accent without considering the work that can go into learning to communicate differently.
In her caption, Saeed said her accent was still not perfect, but she had made a conscious decision to ensure that people could understand her in any setting. She wrote that an actor’s voice is an important part of their craft and should be trained with the same seriousness as any other skill.
She also stressed that no accent should be considered more acceptable than another. Saeed said people often adapt their communication styles while navigating different countries, cultures and languages, and such efforts should be treated with respect rather than judgement.
The actor added a lighter note about her connection with home, saying that her familiar Mumbai speech patterns return quickly whenever she speaks to her mother.
Career Journey From Bollywood to Reality Television
Sana Saeed is currently based in Los Angeles, California. She began her screen career as a child performer in the popular Hindi film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, where she played the role of Anjali Khanna.
She later appeared in Student of the Year and continued to remain visible through television appearances. Her reality show credits include Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6, Nach Baliye 7 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7.
Her latest post has drawn attention to a wider conversation around language, identity and the pressure people may face while adapting to new places. Through her personal experience, Saeed highlighted that adjusting an accent can be a practical communication decision rather than a reason for criticism.
