Kashmir – UKPNP Raises Alarm Over Alleged Human Rights Violations in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir
Kashmir – The United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) has intensified its appeal to the international community, alleging that the humanitarian situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has worsened significantly. The organization has urged global institutions to take immediate notice of what it describes as a serious deterioration in human rights and civilian safety, while calling for an impartial international investigation into recent developments.

UKPNP Seeks Immediate International Action
According to the UKPNP, its spokesperson, Sardar Nasir Aziz Khan, has accused Pakistani security forces of using advanced tactical drones and live ammunition during operations against civilian gatherings. The party claims that these actions have resulted in the deaths of more than 24 people, while several hundred others have reportedly suffered serious injuries that may have lasting consequences.
The organization stated that it has partnered with the Swiss Kashmir Human Rights Commission (SKHRC) to submit an urgent communication to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The appeal, sent on June 26, reportedly outlines allegations of excessive force against peaceful civilians and requests immediate international attention.
Allegations of Communication and Supply Restrictions
The UKPNP further alleged that authorities have imposed extensive restrictions on communication services across the region. According to the party, mobile phone connectivity and internet access have been suspended, while movement across regional borders has been heavily restricted.
The organization also claimed that these restrictions have disrupted the delivery of essential supplies, including food, wheat flour, medicines, and emergency medical equipment. It argued that the continued blockade has created additional hardships for residents who are already facing challenging conditions.
Concerns Raised Over Access to Healthcare
Highlighting the healthcare situation, the UKPNP alleged that security personnel have established a strong presence around local hospitals. The party claimed that many injured residents are reluctant to seek medical treatment because they fear possible detention or arrest upon arrival at healthcare facilities.
According to the organization, these circumstances have significantly affected access to medical care for vulnerable groups, including elderly citizens, people living with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and young children. The party further stated that disruptions to healthcare services have reportedly delayed routine vaccinations for infants and limited maternal healthcare for women experiencing pregnancy-related complications.
Demand for Independent Investigation
The UKPNP and the Swiss Kashmir Human Rights Commission have jointly called for the United Nations to establish an independent fact-finding mission to examine the allegations made by the organization. They have also requested that international agencies investigate the reported civilian deaths and assess the humanitarian situation on the ground.
The party reiterated its criticism of what it described as an ongoing blockade and communication shutdown that has remained in place since early June. According to the UKPNP, the continued restrictions have affected the availability of essential goods and increased pressure on local communities.
Appeal for International Access and Transparency
In addition to raising concerns over humanitarian conditions, the UKPNP criticized Pakistani authorities for allegedly preventing federal and Senate opposition leaders from entering Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The organization has urged Pakistan to allow unrestricted access for United Nations representatives, international human rights organizations, independent observers, and members of the international media to visit Rawalakot and other affected areas. It argued that transparent international monitoring is necessary to establish an accurate assessment of the situation.
The UKPNP also emphasized that peaceful demonstrations are a recognized democratic right and maintained that protesters should not face criminalization for participating in non-violent public gatherings. The organization called for accountability if any violations of international human rights standards are confirmed through an independent investigation.
