Wall Collapse – Father and Son Die After Under-Construction Mall Boundary Gives Way in Bharuch
Wall Collapse – Heavy overnight rainfall in Gujarat triggered a tragic wall collapse at an under-construction commercial project, leading to the death of two family members and prompting an official investigation.

A tragic accident unfolded in Gujarat’s Bharuch district during the early hours of Wednesday when a boundary wall at the under-construction World Trade Centre shopping mall project collapsed onto a nearby residential house. The incident claimed the lives of a father and his 21-year-old son, while two women from the same family escaped safely. Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the structural failure.
Wall Crashes Onto Nearby House During Heavy Rain
According to officials, the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. in the Ali Matariya Talab area of Bharuch city after continuous overnight rainfall. A section of the construction site’s boundary wall suddenly gave way and fell directly onto a house located next to the project. At the time of the collapse, four members of a family were inside the residence.
While two women either managed to move to safety or were rescued shortly after the collapse, the father and his son became trapped beneath the heavy debris. Residents immediately alerted emergency services after hearing the loud crash.
Fire Brigade Conducts Rescue Operation
Fire Officer Chirag Gadhvi of the Bharuch Municipality said the fire brigade received an emergency call from the control room soon after the incident. Rescue personnel, accompanied by emergency equipment and a rescue vehicle, reached the location without delay.
The team worked through the rubble to locate the trapped victims before shifting them to Bharuch Civil Hospital. However, doctors declared both individuals dead upon arrival. Emergency responders also ensured the safety of the surviving family members and secured the affected area to prevent further risks.
Local Residents Describe the Incident
People living in the neighborhood said the accident occurred following intense rainfall that continued through the night. A local resident, whose relative’s house was damaged in the collapse, said four family members were inside the building when the wall came down.
According to the resident, two occupants managed to escape, while the remaining two were buried under the debris until rescue teams arrived. He added that the heavy rain appeared to have played a significant role in weakening the wall before it collapsed.
Municipal Authorities Order Investigation
Bharuch Municipal Council President Devendra Vasava confirmed that four people had initially been trapped after the wall collapsed. He stated that the municipal administration informed the fire department immediately after receiving details of the incident, allowing rescue operations to begin without delay.
Vasava said two people were successfully rescued alive, but despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the father and his son could not be saved. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured that officials would examine every aspect of the incident.
Probe to Determine Cause of Structural Failure
Municipal authorities have ordered a detailed investigation into the collapse of the boundary wall at the under-construction shopping mall site. The inquiry will examine whether heavy rainfall alone caused the structure to fail or if other factors related to construction quality, engineering standards, or safety measures contributed to the accident.
Officials have not yet disclosed the identities of the two deceased victims. The findings of the investigation are expected to help determine responsibility and guide any necessary action aimed at preventing similar incidents at construction sites in the future
