EV Policy – Delhi Introduces New Online Subsidy Process for Electric Vehicle Buyers
EV Policy – People buying electric vehicles in Delhi under the newly introduced EV Policy 2026 will now be required to submit their subsidy applications independently through a government-managed online portal. The application must be completed within 30 days of the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) being issued, replacing the earlier system where dealerships handled most of the subsidy-related formalities on behalf of customers.

Online Portal to Handle Subsidy Applications
The Delhi Transport Department is preparing a dedicated digital platform to manage the implementation of the new policy. Officials expect the portal to become operational within the coming week. Once launched, it will allow eligible vehicle owners to register, upload the required documents, and apply for financial incentives directly through an online process.
Government authorities said the platform will also help monitor policy implementation and ensure subsidy claims are processed efficiently. The move is intended to make the entire system more transparent while giving applicants direct control over their submissions.
Dealers to Guide Buyers on Eligibility
Unlike the previous EV policy introduced by the earlier administration, dealerships will no longer file subsidy applications for customers during the purchase process. Instead, dealers will now be responsible for informing buyers about available incentives and explaining whether the selected electric vehicle qualifies under the government’s eligibility criteria.
Officials confirmed that formal instructions will be shared with dealerships after the policy is officially notified through a gazette notification. The notification is expected to take effect from Wednesday following approval by the Lieutenant Governor.
Direct Transfer of Incentives to Beneficiaries
Eligible applicants will receive subsidy payments directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The processing of applications and release of funds will be carried out through the Central government’s Public Financial Management System, ensuring greater accountability and faster financial transactions.
Authorities believe the revised application process will reduce administrative delays while improving verification and fund disbursement procedures.
Real-Time EV Charging Dashboard Under Development
Alongside the subsidy portal, the Delhi government is also creating an advanced digital dashboard that will provide live information about charging infrastructure across the city.
The platform will display the location of charging stations, the number of available charging points, charging capacity, estimated waiting time, and battery-swapping facilities. Officials said this feature will help electric vehicle users plan their journeys more efficiently by checking charging station availability before travelling.
The dashboard is expected to improve convenience for EV owners while supporting the city’s growing electric mobility network.
Policy Comes Into Force From July 1
The Delhi Cabinet-approved EV Policy 2026 officially takes effect on July 1 and will remain valid until March 31, 2030. Under the new framework, electric cars priced up to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) and registered in Delhi will receive a complete exemption from road tax and registration charges.
The government has also announced phased purchase incentives for electric two-wheelers. Buyers will receive a subsidy of Rs 30,000 during the first year of the policy, Rs 20,000 in the second year, and Rs 10,000 in the third year, encouraging wider adoption of clean mobility.
Government Outlines Long-Term Clean Mobility Vision
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the policy as an important milestone in the city’s effort to reduce pollution and expand the use of environmentally friendly transportation. She said the policy introduces a stronger institutional structure than previous initiatives while providing a long-term roadmap for the transition to electric mobility.
According to the government, the policy extends beyond financial incentives by focusing on expanding charging infrastructure, strengthening administrative systems, and gradually increasing the electrification of multiple vehicle categories over the coming years. The broader objective is to support sustainable urban transport and contribute to cleaner air in the national capital by 2030.
