Investigation – A police investigation is underway after a complaint accused Punjab Kings all-rounder Shashank Singh, his father, and another individual of assaulting and abusing a recently appointed domestic cook.

Punjab Kings all-rounder Shashank Singh, his father and former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Shailesh Singh, along with their driver, have been named in a police case registered in Bhopal following allegations of physical assault and verbal abuse made by a domestic cook employed at their residence. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation has begun after the complaint was filed at Ratibad Police Station.
FIR Registered Under Relevant BNS Provisions
According to police officials, the First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to the use of abusive language, causing simple injuries, and acts committed with common intention. The complaint identifies Shashank Singh, retired senior police officer Shailesh Singh, and their driver as the accused. Investigators have stated that the matter is being examined and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
Cook Details Alleged Incident
The complainant, Vipendra Singh Tomar, a resident of Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, stated that he joined the Singh family’s household as a private cook on June 25. According to his complaint, he had agreed to work for a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 and was assigned duties at the family’s residence located on Neelbad-Mendori Road in Bhopal.
Tomar alleged that shortly after joining, he began facing repeated criticism over his work. He also claimed that his mobile phone was taken from him soon after he started working. In his statement to the police, he said that on the morning of June 28, after preparing and serving breakfast, he requested the return of his phone but was refused.
Allegations of Assault and Forced Payment
The complaint further alleges that after he returned to his room inside the residence, Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh, and their driver entered the room. Tomar has accused the three of physically assaulting him, verbally abusing him, and forcing him to leave the property.
He also claimed that he was compelled to transfer Rs 1,000 from his mobile phone as reimbursement for food and accommodation provided during the period he stayed at the residence after joining work. These allegations form part of the FIR currently under investigation by the local police.
Police Begin Inquiry
A senior police official in Bhopal confirmed that the complaint has been formally registered and that investigators are collecting evidence and recording statements as part of the ongoing inquiry. Officials have not announced any conclusions, emphasizing that the investigation remains in its initial stage.
Family Rejects the Allegations
While retired IPS officer Shailesh Singh could not be reached for his response, Shashank Singh denied the allegations when contacted. He said the accusations made by the former cook were false and claimed that his mother had found the employee in an intoxicated condition, leading to his removal from the job.
Shashank further stated that his father had sought information about the complainant from authorities in Rewa, where, according to him, local police described the cook as a habitual alcohol consumer. However, these claims have not been independently verified, and police have not publicly confirmed any such information.
The investigation continues, and authorities are expected to examine statements from all concerned parties before deciding on any further legal action.
