Senior leaders of the Delhi government and the Bharatiya Janata Party gathered in the national capital on Tuesday to pay homage to former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma on his death anniversary. The commemorative prayer meeting was attended by several prominent leaders, including Delhi ministers Parvesh Verma and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who joined party workers and supporters in remembering the veteran leader’s contribution to Delhi’s political and administrative development.
Chief Minister Highlights His Contribution
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid an emotional tribute to Sahib Singh Verma, describing him as a leader whose public life reflected integrity, discipline, and a deep commitment to serving society. In her message, she recalled his journey as an educator, Chief Minister, and later a Union Minister, stating that he established high standards in public administration through his dedication and values.
She noted that his work for Delhi’s progress, along with his emphasis on transparent governance and public welfare, continues to inspire political leaders and citizens alike. According to the Chief Minister, his vision for the capital and his lifelong service will always hold an important place in Delhi’s political history.
Leaders Recall Simplicity and Public Service
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also offered his respects during the prayer gathering and shared a tribute on social media. He remembered Sahib Singh Verma as a leader closely associated with honest governance, humility, and service to the people.

BJP Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj also visited Sahib Singh Verma’s memorial in Delhi to offer floral tributes. The ceremony reflected the continued respect that leaders across the party hold for the former Chief Minister, whose political career left a lasting mark on the capital’s governance.
The prayer meeting witnessed the participation of senior BJP leaders, party workers, and supporters who gathered to honour his memory and reflect on his contribution to public life.
Journey from Village Roots to Public Office
Sahib Singh Verma was born on March 15, 1943, into a farming family in Mundka village, Delhi. His early association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh marked the beginning of his public life before he entered active politics.
He first became a member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi after being elected on a Janata Party ticket. Later, he secured another electoral victory representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, strengthening his political presence in the capital.
Following the Delhi Assembly elections in 1993, he was appointed as the state’s Education and Development Minister. His administrative responsibilities expanded further when he assumed the office of Chief Minister in 1996, a position he held for more than two and a half years.
Apart from his political career, Sahib Singh Verma was also recognised for his academic achievements. He earned a doctorate in Library Science, reflecting his strong educational background alongside his commitment to public service.
His political journey, administrative leadership, and focus on development continue to be remembered by colleagues and supporters as significant chapters in Delhi’s governance history.
