Tamil nadu heavy rain weather alert 1

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted heavy rainfall in four districts of Tamil Nadu on Monday as a weather system continues to strengthen over the region. Officials said the prevailing atmospheric circulation is expected to trigger rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several locations, while moderate showers are likely across many other districts.

Atmospheric System Driving Rainfall

According to the weather department, the atmospheric circulation remains active at nearly 1.5 kilometres above mean sea level and stretches from Karnataka towards the Kanyakumari Sea. This system is creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across the state.

The districts expected to receive heavy rain include the hilly regions of Coimbatore, along with the Nilgiris, Dindigul and Theni. These areas could also witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the day, increasing the possibility of temporary disruptions in normal activities.

Moderate Rain Forecast for Several Districts

Apart from the districts under the heavy rainfall warning, the RMC has forecast moderate rain in several other regions. Northern districts, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Vellore, are expected to receive scattered showers.

Rainfall activity is also likely in central and western parts of the state, covering Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Namakkal, Erode, Salem and Madurai. Meteorologists noted that the current weather pattern remains favourable for widespread rain, with isolated showers expected throughout the day in many places.

Rain Likely to Continue on Tuesday

The latest forecast indicates that rainfall will persist into Tuesday. Heavy showers are expected to continue over the hill areas of Coimbatore district and the Nilgiris, while most other districts are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall.

Weather experts said the ongoing atmospheric conditions are being closely monitored, as any strengthening of the circulation could influence rainfall intensity in the coming days. Residents have been advised to stay updated through official weather bulletins for the latest developments.

Chennai Weather Outlook

For Chennai, the forecast suggests partly cloudy skies with moderate rain likely at a few locations during the day. The city is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain close to 28 degrees Celsius.

Although rainfall is expected in parts of the city, humid weather conditions are likely to continue because of the high daytime temperature.

Authorities Advise Caution

The weather department has urged people, especially those living in hilly and low-lying regions, to remain cautious as heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds may lead to localised waterlogging, reduced visibility and temporary traffic disruptions.

Local administrations have been instructed to keep a close watch on weather developments and stay prepared for any emergency response if required. Disaster management teams remain on standby in vulnerable locations, while residents living near rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas have been advised to follow official weather updates and safety instructions issued by the authorities
