Delhi metro central vista corridor

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started construction work at the Central Secretariat Metro station for the upcoming Central Vista corridor. The project forms part of Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro expansion and is designed to enhance public transport links within the capital’s central administrative zone. The nearly 10-kilometre underground corridor will extend the Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to R K Ashram Marg, creating a stronger connection between major government institutions and surrounding areas.

Underground Corridor to Feature Nine New Metro Stations

According to the DMRC, the Central Vista corridor will cover approximately 9.913 kilometres and include nine underground stations. These stations are Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha. The new stretch will also integrate with the existing Magenta, Yellow, and Violet metro lines, allowing passengers to switch routes more efficiently across the network.

Improved Connectivity for Government Offices and Public Spaces

The new metro corridor is expected to provide substantial benefits for government employees, residents, and visitors travelling to the Lutyens’ Delhi area and nearby administrative districts. It will offer easier access to several important locations along Kartavya Path, reducing travel time while supporting smoother movement throughout one of the busiest parts of the national capital.

Officials believe the improved connectivity will also make it more convenient for people visiting government ministries, judicial institutions, national memorials, and major convention centres located within the Central Vista region.

Project Launch Attended by Union Minister

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal attended the commencement of the construction work along with senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The event marked another milestone in the ongoing expansion of Delhi’s metro infrastructure, which continues to focus on improving accessibility across the city.

During the programme, the minister highlighted the importance of the new corridor in supporting daily commuters and visitors travelling to central government offices. He noted that the integration of the new route with multiple existing metro lines would create a more seamless travel experience for thousands of passengers every day.

Faster Travel and Stronger Metro Network Expected

Speaking about the project, Manohar Lal said the Central Vista corridor would significantly reduce commuting time while enhancing passenger comfort through better connectivity. He added that the expansion reflects the continued development of Delhi Metro as one of the world’s leading urban public transport systems.

Once completed, the underground corridor is expected to strengthen the efficiency of the overall metro network by offering direct access to key administrative and public destinations. The project is also anticipated to encourage greater use of public transport, helping ease congestion on city roads while providing reliable and sustainable mobility for daily commuters.
