DefenceOrder – Bharat Dynamics Secures Major HAL Contract for Advanced Military Systems

DefenceOrder – Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has secured a significant defence contract valued at Rs 1,347.71 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), strengthening its role in India’s growing defence manufacturing ecosystem. The state-owned defence company disclosed the development to stock exchanges on Wednesday, stating that the agreement covers the production and supply of critical military equipment intended for helicopter operations.

Contract Covers Missile Launchers and Defensive Systems

According to the company, the order includes Helina missile launchers and associated Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) worth Rs 1,109.37 crore. In addition, Bharat Dynamics will supply Counter Measures Dispensing System LRUs valued at Rs 238.34 crore. The execution timeline for the project ranges from 24 months to 60 months, depending on the specific systems being delivered.

The contract represents another important collaboration between two major public sector defence enterprises and aligns with India’s efforts to expand domestic production of strategic military equipment.

Helina Missile System Designed for Combat Operations

The Helina missile system is a helicopter-launched version of the Nag anti-tank guided missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Classified as a third-generation fire-and-forget weapon, the missile is designed to engage heavily armoured targets with high precision.

The launchers included in the latest order are specialised twin-tube mounting systems installed on military helicopters. These platforms are used to deploy Helina missiles during combat operations and are integrated into indigenous helicopter platforms such as the HAL Rudra and HAL Prachand.

Defensive Equipment Enhances Aircraft Protection

The agreement also covers the supply of Counter Measures Dispensing System LRUs, which form an important part of an aircraft’s self-defence architecture. These modular components help helicopters respond to incoming missile threats by releasing countermeasures such as chaff and flares.

Such systems are designed to disrupt the tracking mechanisms of radar-guided and infrared-seeking missiles, thereby improving the survivability of aircraft operating in hostile environments.

Bharat Dynamics Continues Focus on Defence Production

Bharat Dynamics is one of India’s leading defence manufacturers and is primarily involved in the production of missiles, torpedoes, and related weapon systems. The company works closely with DRDO in the development and manufacturing of indigenous defence technologies for the armed forces.

The latest order adds to the company’s defence portfolio and is expected to contribute to its long-term order book over the coming years.

Recent Financial Performance Shows Weak Quarter

Despite securing the major contract, Bharat Dynamics reported a challenging financial performance during the fourth quarter of FY26. The company’s net profit declined by 58.5 percent to Rs 113 crore compared with Rs 273 crore recorded during the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

Revenue also witnessed a sharp fall of 73 percent, dropping to Rs 480 crore from Rs 1,777 crore a year earlier. Operating profitability remained under pressure, with EBITDA falling 81.5 percent to Rs 55.2 crore during the quarter. EBITDA margin stood at 11.5 percent, lower than the 16.8 percent reported in the same period of the preceding fiscal year.

HAL Reports Growth in Revenue and Profit

In contrast, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited posted improved quarterly earnings for FY26. The aerospace and defence manufacturer reported a net profit of Rs 4,196 crore in the January-March quarter, reflecting a growth of 5.5 percent from Rs 3,977 crore recorded in the corresponding period last year.

HAL’s revenue also moved higher, increasing 1.8 percent to Rs 13,942 crore compared with Rs 13,700 crore in the year-ago quarter. The performance highlights the company’s continued operational strength as it expands its role in India’s defence and aerospace programmes.
