MSRTC Salary Hike – Maharashtra Government Approves Major Pay Benefits for Staff
MSRTC Salary Hike – Employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) are set to receive enhanced financial benefits after the state government approved a revision in salaries and allowances. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the state’s Transport Minister during the ongoing monsoon session of the legislature, bringing relief to thousands of workers associated with the public transport undertaking.

Government Announces Enhanced Dearness Allowance
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik outlined a series of measures aimed at strengthening employee welfare and ensuring fair compensation for the MSRTC workforce. Among the key decisions is an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), which has been raised by five percentage points. With this revision, the DA payable to employees will increase from 53 percent to 58 percent.
The minister stated that the decision was taken to support workers facing rising living costs and to improve the overall financial security of employees serving across the state’s transport network.
House Rent Allowance Structure Revised
In another significant move, the government has revised the House Rent Allowance (HRA) structure for MSRTC employees. The existing HRA slabs have been upgraded to provide greater housing-related support.
Under the revised framework, the earlier allowance rates of 8 percent, 16 percent, and 24 percent have been increased to 10 percent, 20 percent, and 30 percent respectively. Officials believe the change will help employees better manage accommodation expenses, particularly in urban and high-cost regions.
Annual Increment Receives a Boost
The package also includes a revision in the annual salary increment rate. Employees will now receive a yearly increment of 3 percent instead of the previous 2 percent.
The increase is expected to provide a stronger long-term financial advantage to workers by improving salary growth over the course of their service. Employee representatives have long argued that higher annual increments were necessary to keep pace with inflation and rising household expenses.
Additional Financial Responsibility for Corporation
The revised salary and allowance package is expected to create an additional monthly expenditure of around Rs 45 crore for MSRTC. Despite the corporation’s financial challenges, the state government has chosen to move forward with the employee-focused measures.
Addressing concerns regarding the increased financial burden, Minister Sarnaik said that protecting the interests and rights of employees remains a priority. He indicated that employee welfare should not be compromised despite the corporation’s economic pressures.
Response to Long-Pending Employee Concerns
For several years, MSRTC employees have raised concerns regarding salary levels, allowance revisions and workplace conditions. These issues have often resulted in demonstrations, protests and labour actions seeking better compensation and benefits.
The latest announcement is being viewed as a response to many of those long-standing demands. Employee groups have consistently sought improvements in Dearness Allowance calculations, annual salary growth and housing-related benefits.
Industry observers believe the revised package could contribute to improved workforce morale and help address concerns that have persisted within the corporation for years. The decision is also expected to strengthen employee confidence as MSRTC continues its efforts to enhance public transport services across Maharashtra.
