NEETControversy – Kharge Intensifies Attack on Centre Over Exam Leak Row
NEETControversy – A fresh political confrontation has emerged over the NEET examination controversy, with opposition leaders accusing the Union government of failing to safeguard students’ interests and dismissing concerns raised over alleged irregularities in the examination process.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday launched a strong criticism of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that the government had failed to address repeated examination-related controversies and was instead targeting those who questioned the system.
Kharge Raises Concerns Over Students’ Future
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Kharge claimed that multiple examination paper leak incidents had occurred during the tenure of the BJP-led government, affecting the academic prospects of countless students across the country. He argued that young aspirants and their families had been forced to bear the consequences of failures within the examination system.
The Congress chief further alleged that several students had suffered severe emotional distress due to the uncertainty surrounding competitive examinations. According to him, the concerns raised by students and parents deserved serious attention rather than criticism from those in positions of authority.
Criticism Over Remarks on Protesters
Kharge’s remarks came in response to comments reportedly made by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding individuals participating in demonstrations demanding accountability over the NEET paper leak controversy.
The Congress leader accused the government of routinely questioning the motives of people who voice dissent. He argued that individuals expressing concerns about public issues should not be branded negatively simply because they disagree with official positions.
Drawing comparisons with earlier political movements, Kharge said the government had previously used similar language against groups involved in public protests. He maintained that criticism and democratic participation are essential components of a healthy political system.
Demand for Minister’s Resignation
Reiterating his stand, Kharge called for Pradhan to step down from his position, asserting that accountability must be established in matters affecting the education sector. He also claimed that student-led campaigns seeking answers on examination irregularities would continue to gain support across different parts of the country.
According to Kharge, students and parents are increasingly demanding greater transparency and stronger safeguards to prevent future incidents that could undermine confidence in national-level examinations.
Minister Defends Government’s Position
The controversy escalated after Pradhan, during a recent interview, responded to demonstrations being held at Jantar Mantar and demands for his resignation.
The Union minister reportedly described some of the protesters as individuals working in support of disruptive forces. He suggested that certain groups were attempting to exploit the issue for political purposes and argued that those rejected through democratic processes were seeking alternative ways to challenge established institutions.
Pradhan also maintained that efforts were being made to protect the integrity of the education system and prevent attempts to weaken public confidence in national examinations.
Kejriwal Joins the Political Debate
The dispute has also drawn reactions from other opposition leaders. Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticized the Education Minister’s remarks and questioned the government’s handling of student concerns.
In a social media post, Kejriwal expressed support for students protesting against examination irregularities and argued that their demands should be heard rather than dismissed. He suggested that protecting students’ academic future should remain the government’s primary responsibility.
Background of the NEET Examination Dispute
The latest exchange comes shortly after the re-examination for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 was conducted on June 21. The examination was held at centres across India as well as several locations overseas.
Despite the completion of the re-test process, political debate surrounding the alleged paper leak controversy continues. Opposition parties have continued to demand accountability and reforms, while the government has defended its response and measures aimed at ensuring fairness in the examination system.
