Security – Extensive Mock Drill Conducted Ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2026

Security – Authorities have stepped up preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, with a large-scale mock drill conducted in Ramban district to evaluate emergency response capabilities and strengthen security arrangements ahead of the annual pilgrimage.

Security mock drill ahead of amarnath yatra 2026

The exercise took place at the Yatra Langar facilities located at Chanderkote and Mehaar along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). The drill brought together security agencies and disaster response teams to assess their readiness in handling possible emergencies during the pilgrimage season.

Multiple Emergency Situations Simulated

During the coordinated operation, officials recreated a range of potential threat scenarios to test the efficiency of response mechanisms. These included a fire emergency, a suspected drone-related security alert, and a simulated vehicle-borne explosive blast.

Response teams demonstrated rapid mobilization and coordinated action while managing each situation. The exercise focused on evaluating communication systems, emergency evacuation procedures, and the ability of different agencies to work together under pressure.

Joint Participation by Security and Rescue Agencies

Several key organizations took part in the preparedness exercise, including the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF, CISF, SOG Ramban, and other supporting departments.

Officials said the drill highlighted strong operational coordination among participating agencies and reflected the extensive planning underway to ensure the safe conduct of the pilgrimage. The exercise also provided an opportunity to identify areas requiring further improvement before the arrival of pilgrims.

Enhanced Vigilance Along National Highway

Security forces have maintained heightened alertness across the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which serves as a critical route for Yatra movement. Comprehensive arrangements involving security deployment, traffic management, and logistical support are being implemented to facilitate uninterrupted travel for devotees.

Authorities continue to review security measures at important transit points and accommodation sites to ensure smooth operations throughout the pilgrimage period.

Yatra Schedule Announced

The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28 after a 57-day duration, coinciding with the celebration of Raksha Bandhan.

Pilgrims will be able to undertake the journey through two designated routes. The traditional route begins from Pahalgam in Anantnag district and stretches approximately 48 kilometers, while the shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district covers around 14 kilometers.

Ganderbal Strengthens Security Network

Meanwhile, authorities in Ganderbal district have intensified security arrangements in preparation for both the annual Mela Kheer Bhawani and the Amarnath pilgrimage.

Police personnel recently carried out area domination exercises around the Kheer Bhawani Temple at Tulmulla. The objective was to maintain a secure atmosphere for worshippers, local residents, and visitors expected to participate in the religious gathering.

Surveillance and Monitoring Measures Expanded

As part of broader security planning, law enforcement agencies have increased surveillance and checking operations along the Ganderbal-Baltal corridor. Vehicles are being subjected to detailed inspections, while personnel remain deployed at strategic locations to maintain strict monitoring of movement along the pilgrimage route.

In addition, Advance Security Tasking exercises are being conducted at sensitive locations to strengthen the security framework, improve coordination among agencies, and ensure prompt action in the event of any unforeseen development.

Officials stated that these measures form part of a comprehensive security strategy designed to facilitate the peaceful and safe conduct of upcoming religious events across the region.
