NEETUG – Nagpur Student Faces Exam Centre Mix-Up Before Retest

NEETUG – A medical aspirant from Nagpur found himself in an unexpected situation after discovering that his revised NEET-UG admit card listed an examination centre in the United Arab Emirates instead of Maharashtra, creating uncertainty just ahead of the national entrance test scheduled for June 21.

The student and his family noticed the discrepancy only after downloading the updated admit card issued for the NEET-UG re-examination. With the test date approaching rapidly, the unexpected change left them worried about whether he would be able to participate in the examination.

Admit Card Error Raises Concern

According to family members, the candidate had originally been assigned a test centre at a school in Nagpur for the earlier examination. However, after authorities announced a fresh examination following the controversy surrounding the previous test, a revised admit card showed a completely different location.

To their surprise, the new document mentioned an examination centre at Abu Dhabi Indian School in the UAE. The family stated that the student had never opted for an overseas examination centre during the application process.

Preferred Cities Were Within Maharashtra

The candidate’s family said that while completing the application form, Nagpur was selected as the first preferred city. Wardha and Bhandara were listed as additional options.

They maintained that all preferred locations were within Maharashtra, making the allocation of a foreign examination centre difficult to understand. The family immediately began seeking clarification after noticing the change.

Family Seeks Immediate Correction

The student’s father, Mohammad Talib, expressed concern over the situation, saying it was impossible for the family to arrange international travel at such short notice.

He pointed out that the student does not possess a passport and that there was no practical way to travel abroad for an examination scheduled within a day. The family feared that the candidate’s academic future could be affected if the issue remained unresolved.

Following the discovery, they contacted the National Testing Agency (NTA) through its official support channels and formally reported the matter.

NTA Assures Review of the Issue

According to the family, officials acknowledged the complaint and informed them that the matter would be examined. They were reportedly assured that necessary verification would be carried out and that a corrected admit card could be issued if an administrative error was confirmed.

The case has drawn attention because it emerged at a time when examination authorities are already facing heightened scrutiny regarding the management of large-scale entrance tests.

Former Minister Criticises Administrative Lapse

Former Maharashtra Education Minister Dr. Anees Ahmed described the incident as a serious oversight and urged authorities to address the matter without delay.

He called on the examination agency to ensure that the student receives a test centre in Nagpur or another nearby city so that he can appear for the examination without unnecessary hardship.

Extensive Security Measures for NEET-UG Re-Exam

Meanwhile, the NTA has outlined extensive preparations for the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. The agency stated that confidential examination materials are being transported under enhanced security arrangements.

Officials said GPS-enabled vehicles, accompanied by police personnel, are being used to move sensitive examination documents. Test centres have also been equipped with CCTV surveillance systems, biometric verification based on Aadhaar authentication and real-time monitoring mechanisms.

Large Workforce Deployed Across Centres

To ensure smooth conduct of the examination, more than two lakh personnel have been assigned various responsibilities. These include city coordinators, observers, centre superintendents, invigilators, district administration officials and police staff.

Candidates have been instructed to report to their respective centres between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm. Entry gates will close at 1:30 pm, after which no candidate will be permitted to enter.

The pen-and-paper examination will take place from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm across 551 cities in India and 14 international locations. Authorities expect more than 22.79 lakh candidates to appear for the highly competitive medical entrance examination.
