A leading voice on the issue, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, recently urged Americans to reject all forms of prejudice and stand united against hatred regardless of a person’s religion, nationality, or cultural background. His remarks came in response to an incident in Frisco, Texas, where individuals associated with white supremacist groups gathered outside the city hall and reportedly used anti-India slogans directed at the local Indian community.
Call for Unity Against Discrimination
In a video message shared on social media platform X, Krishnamoorthi emphasized that hatred has no place in American society. He said communities must work together to oppose discrimination, whether it is aimed at Hindus, Muslims, Jews, or any other group. According to the congressman, confronting intolerance requires collective action and a commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of every individual.
The lawmaker also encouraged citizens to remain attentive to incidents of bias and xenophobia, stressing that silence can allow prejudice to spread unchecked.
Joint Statement From Indian-American Members of Congress
Krishnamoorthi was joined by fellow Indian-American members of Congress, including Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal, Ro Khanna, Shri Thanedar, and Suhas Subramanyam, in issuing a joint statement condemning a recent incident involving the removal and tearing of an Indian national flag outside Frisco City Hall.
The lawmakers acknowledged the importance of freedom of expression as a constitutional right in the United States. However, they argued that acts involving hateful anti-India messaging and intimidation directed toward a specific community cross a line that can contribute to hostility and social division.
According to the statement, actions that promote fear or target individuals based on their ethnic background are unacceptable and inconsistent with the values of an inclusive society.
Concerns Over Harassment and Xenophobia
The congressional group highlighted the significant contributions made by Indian Americans across the country and stated that members of the community deserve to live without fear of harassment or discrimination.
They noted that reports of xenophobic behavior and anti-Indian rhetoric have become a growing concern for many families. The lawmakers urged political and community leaders to speak out clearly whenever hate-based conduct occurs, emphasizing that such behavior should never be normalized or ignored.

Last month, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Pramila Jayapal, and Congressman Ted Lieu introduced a resolution in Congress criticizing remarks they said amplified negative stereotypes about immigrant communities.
The resolution focused on statements shared by President Donald Trump on the social media platform Truth Social. The post included excerpts from a radio program hosted by conservative commentator Michael Savage, who made comments regarding birthright citizenship and immigrants from countries including India and China.
Debate Over Impact of Political Rhetoric
Democratic lawmakers argued that such remarks can reinforce harmful perceptions and contribute to broader prejudice against immigrant groups. They contended that language targeting specific nationalities may encourage division and undermine efforts to build a more inclusive society.
