Sharib Hashmi Shares Special Memories

To mark the occasion, Hashmi posted a series of previously unseen photographs from the film on his official Instagram account. Alongside the images, he highlighted the importance of the project, describing it as one of the earliest Hindi films to openly address the social stigma associated with menstruation, sanitary pads, and women’s health.

The actor expressed pride in being associated with a film that attempted to initiate conversations on a topic that had long remained uncomfortable for many sections of society. He noted that being part of such a pioneering effort continues to hold special meaning for him even years after its release.

A Film Inspired by a Real-Life Changemaker

Directed by Abhishek Saxena, “Phullu” featured an ensemble cast that included Jyotii Sethi, Nutan Surya, Trisha Kale, Kimti Anand, Namya Saxena, Paras Raj Gandhi, Seema Parihar, and Nilanjana Banerjee, among others.

The film was backed by producers Pushpa Chaudhary, Dr. Anmol Kapoor, Kshitij Chaudhary, and Raman Kapoor under the banner of Kapoor Film Inc KC Production Pvt. Ltd. Its storyline drew inspiration from the life and work of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the social entrepreneur from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, who became widely recognized for developing affordable sanitary pads for women in rural communities.

Muruganantham’s efforts played a major role in increasing access to menstrual hygiene products in underserved regions, earning him national and international recognition for his contribution to women’s health and empowerment.

Similar Theme Reached Mainstream Audiences

The story of Arunachalam Muruganantham later inspired another major Bollywood production. Actor Akshay Kumar portrayed a character based on the innovator in the film “Pad Man,” which was released in February 2018.

The success of “Pad Man” helped bring the issue of menstrual hygiene to a larger audience, while films like “Phullu” had already begun addressing the subject through socially conscious storytelling. Together, these projects contributed to broader public discussions surrounding women’s health, education, and awareness.

Sharib Hashmi’s Upcoming Project

Meanwhile, Sharib Hashmi is preparing for his next big-screen appearance in “Welcome To The Jungle,” an upcoming comedy entertainer directed by Ahmed Khan.

The film serves as the third installment in the popular “Welcome” franchise and features a star-studded cast. The project brings together several well-known names from the film industry, including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, Aftab Shivdasani, Lara Dutta, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Daler Mehndi, Farida Jalal, Krishna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Kiran Kumar, Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma, Vindu Dara Singh, Nawab Shah, Urvashi Rautela, Puneet Issar, Arjun Firoz Khan, the late Pankaj Dheer, Sudesh Berry, Hemant Pandey, Zakir Hussain, and Sayaji Shinde.
