Governance –  Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached a significant milestone in India’s political history on June 10, becoming the country’s longest-serving elected prime minister in uninterrupted office. Marking the occasion, the Union Cabinet approved a special congratulatory resolution recognizing his tenure and describing the day as an important chapter in India’s democratic evolution. The resolution was adopted shortly before a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which gathered to commemorate 12 years of governance under Modi’s leadership.

The Cabinet meeting opened with members offering a standing ovation to the prime minister. Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record held by India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served continuously for 4,398 days between 1952 and 1964.

According to the resolution, the achievement reflects the strength of democratic institutions and the trust placed in elected leadership by the people. Cabinet members stated that the milestone symbolizes public participation and confidence in governance driven by national priorities.

The alliance congratulated the prime minister on achieving the record and praised his administration for emphasizing accountability, implementation of policies and transparent governance. Leaders participating in the meeting described the milestone as a reflection of political stability and continuity.
