Road Accident – Six Dharwad Residents Die in Yallapur Ghat Collision
Road Accident – Six residents of Dharwad lost their lives and three others were injured after a multi-utility vehicle collided with a truck near Arabail Ghat in Yallapur taluk early Thursday. Police said the group was travelling to Dharmasthala and other destinations when the crash occurred.
Victims Identified by Police
The deceased have been identified as vehicle driver Sanjay Angadi, 33, Basavaraj, 48, Abhishek Eshwar, 28, Akshay, 26, Abhishek, 26, and Manjunath Chulaki, 32. All six victims were residents of Dharwad, according to police officials.
The impact of the collision caused severe damage to the MUV. Emergency teams and local authorities reached the location after receiving information about the accident. The three injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Police have not yet released further details about the circumstances that led to the collision. An investigation is expected to examine road conditions, vehicle movement and other factors linked to the incident.
Group Was Travelling to Dharmasthala
Officials said the passengers had begun a trip from Dharwad and were heading towards Dharmasthala along with other planned destinations. Arabail Ghat, located in the Yallapur region, is a busy hill route used by private vehicles and commercial transport.
Authorities are continuing to gather information from those injured in the accident and from people who may have witnessed the crash. Further updates are awaited as the inquiry progresses.
Separate KSRTC Bus Crash Reported in Chikkaballapur
The fatal accident comes days after another serious road incident in Karnataka. On July 4, eight people were injured when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus overturned near the VTU Campus at Muddenahalli in Chikkaballapur taluk.
Officials said the bus was travelling from Doddaballapur to Chikkaballapur with 26 passengers on board. Preliminary findings indicated that the driver lost control while attempting to avoid a tipper lorry approaching from the Kanive Narayanapura side.
The bus overturned beside the road, leaving several passengers injured. Residents from nearby areas and police personnel reached the site and assisted in rescue work. All injured passengers were shifted to Sathya Sai Hospital in Muddenahalli for treatment.
Three Bus Passengers Remain Critical
Hospital sources said three of the injured bus passengers were in critical condition. The remaining injured individuals were also being treated for injuries sustained in the accident.
Initial police findings suggest that possible negligence by both the KSRTC bus driver and the tipper lorry driver may have contributed to the crash. However, officials said the final cause will be determined only after the investigation is completed.
Police from Nandi Giridhama Police Station inspected the scene, registered a case and began collecting evidence. Statements from passengers, local residents and the drivers involved are likely to be part of the inquiry.
The two incidents have again drawn attention to road safety concerns on Karnataka’s ghat routes and high-traffic regional roads. Authorities have urged motorists to remain cautious, especially on narrow stretches, sharp bends and roads with heavy vehicle movement.
