ParliamentRow –Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Monday strongly criticised the disturbance that took place during an Independent MP Pappu Yadav’s press interaction, describing the incident as a serious challenge to democratic values. He maintained that every elected representative has the constitutional right to express personal opinions without facing intimidation or threats.
Congress Defends Right to Express Political Views
Speaking to reporters, Tiwari said freedom of expression remains one of the core principles of India’s democratic system. Referring to Pappu Yadav’s long political career, he noted that a six-time Member of Parliament is entitled to present his political beliefs and viewpoints. According to Tiwari, accepting or rejecting those opinions is entirely up to the public, but attempting to silence someone through intimidation or violence cannot be justified.
He further remarked that threatening to attack an individual or openly declaring plans to reach someone’s residence and assault them reflects an unacceptable approach that has no place in a democratic society.
Demand for Action in Alleged Exam Irregularities
During his interaction with the media, Tiwari also addressed allegations linked to examination irregularities. He clarified that his criticism was not directed at every member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), acknowledging that many respected individuals are part of the organisation.
However, he claimed that those accused in the matter are associated with the BJP and argued that remaining silent would not resolve public concerns. He urged the party to respond to the allegations and insisted that authorities should ensure appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible, regardless of political affiliation.
Ram Mandir Donation Controversy Triggered Political Debate
The political dispute intensified after Purnia MP Pappu Yadav performed a satirical act related to the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft issue. During the performance, he dressed as a temple priest and symbolically collected donations while criticising the government over the controversy.
The skit generated widespread political reactions and became the centre of intense public debate, drawing criticism from several quarters while also attracting support from those defending his right to political expression.
