Iran-US Tensions – Tehran Condemns Strikes as Regional Conflict Deepens

Iran-US Tensions –  Iran sharply criticized recent US military operations targeting locations in the country’s southern region, describing the attacks as a serious breach of international law and a violation of its national sovereignty. The condemnation came through an official statement released by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, which accused Washington of carrying out overnight military action against areas inside Iranian territory.

According to the ministry, the strikes violated key principles outlined in the United Nations Charter, particularly provisions that prohibit the use of force in relations between sovereign states. Iranian officials argued that the operation undermined internationally recognized legal norms and heightened instability across an already volatile region.

Tehran Defends Its Military Response

Iran maintained that any actions taken by its armed forces were conducted under its right to self-defense. Authorities stated that the country’s military response was aimed at protecting territorial integrity following what they described as foreign aggression.

The Foreign Ministry said Iran acted in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognizes the right of nations to defend themselves against armed attacks. Officials emphasized that military facilities linked to the launching of the US strikes were subsequently targeted by Iranian forces.

Diplomatic Outreach Intensifies

Amid growing tensions, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate telephone conversations with senior officials from Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The discussions focused on the rapidly evolving security situation in the region and the broader implications of the latest military developments.

During these diplomatic exchanges, Araghchi reportedly reiterated Iran’s position that its sovereignty had been violated and stressed that Tehran would continue to respond to any actions it views as threats to national security. He also highlighted Iran’s determination to defend its interests while engaging regional partners in dialogue.

Drone Strike Targets US Naval Presence

As diplomatic efforts continued, military activity expanded across the region. Iranian media outlets reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a drone operation aimed at the US Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain.

According to reports citing IRGC statements, the operation was conducted during the early hours of Wednesday. Iranian officials warned that any continuation of what they described as hostile actions by the United States could result in stronger retaliatory measures.

The IRGC also claimed that several locations in southern Iran, including Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm, were struck during the US operation. Iranian sources reported damage to local infrastructure, including communications equipment and water storage facilities, while noting that security operations remained ongoing.

US Details Objectives of Air Campaign

The drone operation followed confirmation from US Central Command (CENTCOM) that American Air Force and Navy aircraft had carried out strikes against Iranian air-defense systems, surveillance infrastructure, and command facilities near the Strait of Hormuz.

US officials described the operation as a measured response to recent incidents involving American military personnel and commercial shipping routes in regional waters. CENTCOM stated that US forces remain prepared to safeguard their interests and maintain maritime security.

Escalation Linked to Earlier Incident

American officials indicated that the latest military action followed an incident earlier in the week in which an AH-64 Apache helicopter was brought down near the coast of Oman. CENTCOM confirmed that both crew members were successfully rescued and were reported to be in stable condition.

Before the recent escalation, Araghchi had publicly warned that Iran would respond to any threats directed at the country. In a social media message, he signaled that Tehran would not leave military actions unanswered.

Conflict Enters a New Phase

The reported strike against the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain marks a significant development in the ongoing confrontation. The naval command plays a central role in overseeing American maritime operations across the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, and Arabian Sea.

Military tensions between Iran and the United States have continued to intensify since early 2026, following a series of coordinated military operations and retaliatory actions that have raised concerns about broader regional stability.
