Politics – Sunetra Pawar’s 2029 Leadership Pitch Faces Strategic Hurdles
Politics – Fresh political discussions in Maharashtra have brought renewed attention to the future ambitions of Nationalist Congress Party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar. According to sources familiar with the matter, Pawar, accompanied by her sons Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar, held two separate rounds of discussions with election strategist Prashant Kishor last month. One meeting took place in New Delhi, while the second was conducted in Mumbai.

Talks Focused on Long-Term Political Roadmap
The conversations reportedly centered on developing a long-term strategy aimed at strengthening Sunetra Pawar’s political profile ahead of the 2029 Maharashtra Assembly elections. The proposal was said to include efforts to position her as a potential woman chief ministerial face for the state in the coming years.
However, the negotiations did not progress beyond the initial stages. Sources indicated that differences over financial terms, including a substantial consultancy fee sought by Kishor’s team, contributed to the impasse. Other unresolved issues also played a role, eventually leading both sides to discontinue discussions after the second meeting despite their initial interest in pursuing a broader political partnership.
Fadnavis Sets Sights on 2029 Parliamentary Battle
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reportedly urged Bharatiya Janata Party workers and leaders to concentrate on preparations for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. As he enters another phase of leadership in Maharashtra, Fadnavis continues to hold significant influence within the state’s political landscape.
Party insiders say the chief minister has emphasized the importance of improving the BJP’s parliamentary performance after a disappointing result in the 2024 general election. The party, which secured 23 seats in Maharashtra during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, saw its tally fall sharply to eight seats in 2024.
Focus on Expanding BJP’s Electoral Footprint
Fadnavis is understood to have told party functionaries that maximizing seat victories in 2029 should remain a priority. Political observers believe a stronger parliamentary showing would not only benefit the BJP nationally but could also reinforce Fadnavis’ standing within the party’s leadership structure.
His message to party workers reflects a broader effort to rebuild organizational strength and regain lost electoral ground ahead of the next national contest.
Uncertainty Clouds Ambitious Football Development Initiative
Away from politics, questions are being raised about the future of the Mahadeva football project, a program launched with the objective of identifying and nurturing young football talent across Maharashtra.
The initiative attracted considerable attention during its launch event in Mumbai, which featured renowned Argentine football star Lionel Messi. Organizers selected 30 boys and 30 girls under the age of 14 from different parts of the state, promising world-class coaching, education, accommodation, and scholarship support at no cost to participants.
Parents Seek Clarity on Project’s Future
The selected youngsters were later shifted to a training facility in Lonavala, where they underwent coaching for several months. However, the program has since encountered unexpected obstacles.
Parents claim that participants were recently asked to return home after being informed that final financial approvals and necessary government procedures were still pending. The development has created uncertainty among families, many of whom are now seeking clear information about the project’s future and whether the promised training opportunities will resume.
