Heatwave – The Uttar Pradesh government has stepped up preparations to deal with worsening heatwave conditions across the state, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directing officials to launch immediate relief and emergency response measures. The instructions came during a high-level review meeting held on Thursday as temperatures continued to climb across several regions.
State Agencies Asked to Remain Fully Prepared
The Chief Minister instructed district magistrates, health authorities, electricity departments, and disaster relief teams to stay alert and ensure quick coordination at the local level. Officials have been told to monitor the situation continuously and respond without delay in areas affected by extreme heat.
Special emphasis was placed on uninterrupted electricity supply and smooth drinking water distribution, both of which become critical during prolonged hot weather conditions. Senior officials were also asked to conduct regular checks on hospitals and emergency services to avoid disruptions in public facilities.
Hospitals Directed to Strengthen Heatstroke Treatment Facilities
During the review, Yogi Adityanath stressed the need for government hospitals to remain fully equipped to handle heat-related illnesses. Hospitals have been instructed to maintain adequate stocks of medicines, arrange additional beds if needed, and create dedicated facilities for patients suffering from dehydration or heatstroke.
Medical staff have also been advised to remain prepared for a possible rise in cases linked to excessive heat exposure. Authorities believe timely treatment and public awareness can reduce the health risks associated with severe summer conditions.
Public Advised to Avoid Heat Exposure
The Chief Minister appealed to residents to remain cautious during the ongoing heatwave and avoid unnecessary exposure to hot winds during peak afternoon hours. He especially urged families to take extra care of children, elderly people, and individuals with existing health conditions.
People were advised to wear loose cotton or khadi clothing, stay hydrated, and avoid spending long hours outdoors. Officials said awareness campaigns may also be expanded in districts facing the highest temperatures.
Warning Issued Over Fire Risks During Dry Weather
Along with heat-related concerns, the state government warned departments against negligence that could result in accidental fires. Dry weather and rising temperatures often increase the risk of fire incidents in both urban and rural areas.
Authorities have been directed to ensure that emergency response systems remain active and that local administrations stay prepared to respond quickly to such incidents. Fire safety checks are also expected to be intensified in vulnerable zones.
Focus on Outdoor Workers and Labourers
The government has also asked officials to pay special attention to labourers and workers engaged in outdoor activities. Construction workers, delivery staff, farmers, and daily wage earners are among those considered most vulnerable during periods of extreme heat.
District administrations have been instructed to take preventive measures against dehydration, fatigue, and heat-related illnesses among workers. Officials may also coordinate with employers and local bodies to ensure access to water, shaded areas, and rest breaks during working hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Urges Public Cooperation
A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to citizens across the country to take necessary precautions as temperatures rise in several states. In a message shared on social media platform X, he encouraged people to remain hydrated and carry drinking water while stepping outside.
The Prime Minister also urged citizens to help those in need during the intense summer season. He appreciated individuals and shopkeepers who place water containers outside their homes or businesses for pedestrians and travellers.
IMD Predicts Continued Heatwave Conditions
According to the India Meteorological Department, several parts of central and northwest India are expected to remain under heatwave to severe heatwave conditions for the next three to four days. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, highlighting the intensity of the current weather pattern.
Weather experts have advised residents in affected states to follow official guidelines and avoid outdoor movement during the hottest part of the day whenever possible.
