WeatherAlert – Noida Administration Issues Safety Advisory Ahead of Severe Dust Storms
WeatherAlert – Residents across Noida and nearby parts of Delhi-NCR have been advised to remain cautious after the Gautam Buddha Nagar administration released a public advisory over expected severe weather conditions between May 28 and May 31. The warning follows a forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has predicted thunderstorms, lightning activity, and powerful winds across several parts of North India over the next few days.

Authorities Warn of Sudden Weather Activity
Officials said the region is likely to witness a major shift in weather patterns after days of intense heat. While the expected rainfall and cloud cover may bring temporary relief from rising temperatures, authorities have cautioned residents against ignoring the risks associated with strong storms and dust-laden winds.
According to the IMD, a fresh western disturbance is moving towards North-West India and is expected to affect Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and surrounding districts. The department has indicated that unstable atmospheric conditions may lead to severe thunderstorms and lightning strikes during this period.
Orange Alert Issued for Gautam Buddha Nagar
District Disaster Specialist Omkar Chaturvedi stated that Gautam Buddha Nagar has been placed under the Orange Zone category due to the possibility of extreme weather on May 29. Officials expect the impact to be more intense during this phase, particularly during evening and nighttime hours.
As per weather estimates, wind speeds in some localities could range between 80 and 90 kilometres per hour. In isolated areas, gusts may even touch 100 kmph, increasing the possibility of falling trees, damage to temporary structures, and disruption in traffic movement.
The administration said emergency teams and disaster response units are on alert to handle any weather-related incidents that may arise during the warning period.
Residents Asked to Follow Safety Instructions
The district administration has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms and strong winds. Citizens have also been advised not to stand near electric poles, mobile towers, trees, or tall structures while adverse weather conditions continue.
Officials specifically warned parents against allowing children to play outdoors during storms, especially in open grounds and parks. Residents have also been told to avoid touching metal surfaces, electrical appliances, iron gates, windows, and hand pumps during lightning activity.
Authorities noted that following basic safety precautions can significantly reduce the chances of injuries and property damage during extreme weather situations.
Farmers and Outdoor Workers Given Additional Guidance
The advisory also includes instructions for farmers and labourers working in open fields. People engaged in agricultural work have been asked to immediately move to sheltered and dry locations if dark clouds, thunder, or lightning are observed nearby.
Residents have further been instructed to stay away from ponds, rivers, and other water bodies during thunderstorms, as lightning strikes near water can become highly dangerous. Swimming and water-related activities have also been discouraged until weather conditions improve.
Mobile Applications Recommended for Real-Time Alerts
To help residents receive timely weather warnings, the administration has recommended downloading the Damini App and Sachet App on mobile phones. These government-supported applications provide advance notifications related to lightning strikes, thunderstorms, heavy winds, and other emergency weather situations.
Officials said early alerts can help people take preventive action before weather conditions worsen. The administration has appealed to citizens to remain updated through official weather bulletins and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
The advisory comes as several northern states continue to witness changing weather conditions linked to seasonal atmospheric disturbances. Authorities said continuous monitoring of the situation is underway, and further updates will be issued if required.
