Politics – Karnataka Congress Faces Fresh Questions Over Possible Leadership Shift
Politics – Political developments in Karnataka gathered pace on Wednesday after senior BJP leader BY Vijayendra sharply criticised the ruling Congress government and claimed that internal disagreements within the party had weakened the state administration. His remarks came amid continued discussion over a possible leadership transition in the Karnataka Congress.

Vijayendra, who currently serves as the Karnataka BJP president, accused the Siddaramaiah-led government of pushing the state into heavy financial stress. Speaking to reporters, he alleged that Karnataka’s debt burden had risen significantly compared to other southern states and described the current administration as disconnected from public concerns.
BJP Targets Congress Over Internal Differences
According to Vijayendra, recent political meetings held by Congress leaders in New Delhi reflected growing uncertainty within the party. He claimed that disagreements among senior leaders had affected governance in Karnataka and suggested that any future change in leadership would only offer a short-term solution.
The BJP leader also argued that instability within the ruling party could eventually lead to early elections in the state. While making the remarks, he maintained that his criticism was directed at the functioning of the government rather than at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah personally.
Vijayendra further stated that the Congress organisation was facing a decline nationally and alleged that administrative decisions in Karnataka had suffered because of internal political rivalry. His comments have added to the already intense political discussion surrounding the state leadership issue.
Siddaramaiah Avoids Detailed Response
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, however, chose not to directly respond to the allegations or speculation surrounding leadership changes. Speaking in Bengaluru after paying tribute to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary at Vidhana Soudha, he briefly said that discussions with the Congress high command would be addressed later.
His short response has drawn attention because it comes at a time when repeated reports about a possible change in leadership have continued to circulate within political circles in Karnataka.
The Chief Minister is expected to hold an important breakfast meeting with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar at his official residence, Kaveri, in Bengaluru on Thursday. Political observers are closely watching the meeting, as it comes during a period of heightened discussion about the future leadership structure of the ruling Congress government.
Delhi Meeting Intensifies Political Attention
The upcoming Bengaluru meeting follows a high-level Congress discussion held in New Delhi earlier this week. Several senior party figures attended the meeting, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
The gathering triggered widespread speculation over possible organisational or leadership changes in Karnataka. However, Congress leaders later attempted to downplay those reports.
KC Venugopal clarified after the Delhi discussions that the meeting mainly focused on party organisation and preparations for upcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections. He dismissed reports of a leadership reshuffle and described such claims as political speculation.
Political Uncertainty Continues in Karnataka
Despite official clarification from the Congress leadership, political conversations around Karnataka’s future leadership remain active. The ruling party has repeatedly denied claims of any immediate transition, yet public comments from opposition leaders and ongoing meetings between senior Congress figures continue to attract attention.
The Congress government in Karnataka has faced pressure from the opposition on multiple fronts in recent months, including financial management, governance issues and political coordination within the party. At the same time, Congress leaders have maintained that the administration remains stable and focused on development priorities in the state.
With senior leaders expected to continue internal consultations in the coming days, political observers believe the situation will remain under close watch both within Karnataka and at the national level.
