Cinema – Film Producers Exchange Statements Over Music Rights Dispute Ahead of Release
Cinema – The ongoing disagreement between producer Vashu Bhagnani and the makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has intensified ahead of the film’s theatrical release. Producer Ramesh Taurani, along with Tips Films and the movie’s production team, has publicly responded to allegations surrounding the use of recreated songs in the upcoming comedy drama.

The production team issued a detailed statement rejecting Bhagnani’s accusations and described them as an attempt to damage the film’s reputation before release. According to the statement, the dispute has roots in a long professional relationship that dates back to the mid-1990s during the making of the successful comedy film Coolie No. 1.
Producers Respond to Allegations
In their statement, the filmmakers said they had maintained silence out of respect for their past association with Bhagnani. They claimed that they had supported him professionally during the early years of his career and had no intention of engaging in public disputes.
The makers further alleged that misleading narratives were being spread through media platforms and social media channels. They also questioned why legal proceedings connected to the matter were initiated in a Bihar court rather than Mumbai, where most parties involved in the film industry are based.
The team maintained that the songs Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai legally belong to them and insisted that all rights associated with the tracks are being used within the framework of the law. Since the issue is currently before the court, the producers stated that they would avoid making further public comments.
Vashu Bhagnani Raises Ethical Concerns
Vashu Bhagnani, however, has continued to defend his position publicly. During a recent press interaction, the producer said his objection was not primarily about money but about professional ethics and respect within the industry.
Bhagnani expressed disappointment over filmmaker David Dhawan’s alleged role in recreating songs originally associated with his productions. He said he expected direct communication before the tracks were reused in another film project.
The producer also spoke emotionally about his long association with Dhawan, describing him as a close friend and collaborator. According to Bhagnani, the disagreement has caused personal distress beyond the legal aspects of the case.
Legal Proceedings Continue
The dispute has now moved into the legal arena, with both sides presenting their interpretations of court directions. Bhagnani and his legal representatives referred to a court order connected to Puja Entertainment’s case against Tips Music regarding the alleged unauthorised use of intellectual property linked to Bollywood songs and films.
His legal team stated that the court’s status quo order applies to all music rights and related material mentioned in the lawsuit. They also indicated that parties associated with the film may be asked to submit replies before the court during future hearings.
Bhagnani additionally claimed that an earlier promotional event linked to the movie had been affected because of concerns surrounding the court matter. He alleged that technical explanations given at the time were not the actual reason behind changes in the event schedule.
Film Promotion Continues Despite Controversy
Despite the ongoing legal dispute, promotional activities for Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai are moving ahead. The trailer of the film was recently released and features comedy, romance, dance sequences and family drama in the trademark style associated with director David Dhawan.
The movie stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in lead roles and revolves around a complicated love triangle filled with misunderstandings and comic situations. Supporting performances come from actors including Chunky Panday, Jimmy Shergill, Rakesh Bedi, Ali Asgar, Rajesh Kumar and Mouni Roy.
Several songs from the soundtrack have already gained attention online, especially the recreated version of the popular 1990s track Chunari Chunari. Other tracks released from the film include WOW, Tera Ho Jaun and Vyah Karwado Ji.
Produced by Tips Films Ltd along with Maximilian Films UK, the film is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026. While legal discussions continue, both parties have indicated that the matter will now proceed through the judicial process.
