Break-In Reported During Owner’s Absence

Police said the burglary occurred on May 23 in a high-security residential zone that houses senior officials associated with the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The complainant had travelled to Chandigarh at the time of the incident, leaving the residence locked.

Investigators believe the intruders entered the property after forcing open the main gate and breaking the door lock. Once inside, they reportedly searched through different rooms before targeting an iron almirah where valuables had been kept. Authorities suspect the burglars were aware that the house would remain vacant for several hours.

The theft came to light later in the evening when neighbours noticed that one of the doors at the residence was open under unusual circumstances. Concerned residents immediately contacted the homeowner, who returned to Delhi with her husband around 11 pm and found the property ransacked.

Jewellery and Cash Among Stolen Items

The stolen property includes a large collection of gold and silver ornaments along with cash and foreign currency. According to details mentioned in the complaint submitted to police, the missing items include Rs 15,000 in cash, 20 pounds, and 50 dirhams.

Jewellery reported stolen from the house includes a gold necklace set with matching earrings, eight gold bangles, seven chains, five rings, and four additional earring sets. A nose pin, silver anklets, silver coins weighing around 20 grams, and three wristwatches were also listed among the missing items.

Officials said the complainant provided a detailed inventory of the stolen valuables while filing the online FIR. The estimated value of the missing items has been placed at approximately Rs 50 lakh.

Police Examine CCTV Footage

Following the complaint, police teams along with forensic experts visited the residence to inspect the scene and gather evidence. Officers examined entry points, collected fingerprints, and reviewed the condition of locks and storage units damaged during the burglary.

A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is currently underway. CCTV footage from within the DRDO residential complex and nearby areas is being analysed to determine the movement of suspects before and after the crime.

Investigators are also examining whether the accused had conducted prior surveillance of the property. Police suspect the burglars may have studied the residents’ movements before executing the theft in a relatively secure government housing area.

No Arrests Made So Far

Despite the seriousness of the incident, no arrests had been made till the latest update. Police teams are working to identify possible suspects using surveillance footage and local intelligence inputs.

The burglary has raised fresh concerns regarding residential security even within protected government colonies in the national capital. Authorities are expected to increase monitoring and review access control measures in the area as the investigation progresses.

Police officials have urged residents in similar residential complexes to remain alert, especially when leaving homes unoccupied for extended periods. They have also advised people to inform local security personnel and trusted neighbours before travelling out of town.
