Inflation – Kharge Targets Modi Over Rising Prices Amid Heatwave Advisory
Inflation – Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday while reacting to the government’s public advisory on extreme heat conditions across the country. He argued that although people are capable of coping with rising temperatures, they are facing greater hardship because of increasing inflation, which he blamed on the BJP-led government.

Kharge made the remarks through a post on social media platform X shortly after the prime minister appealed to citizens to remain cautious during the ongoing heatwave affecting several regions of India. The Congress leader questioned why the government speaks about weather-related precautions but remains silent on the financial burden faced by ordinary families.
Kharge Raises Concerns Over Inflation
In his statement, Kharge said the public is not only struggling with intense summer conditions but also dealing with rising prices of daily necessities. According to him, inflation has created additional pressure on households already trying to manage difficult weather conditions.
He also accused the central government of failing to address what he described as the “economic suffering” of common people. The Congress chief further alleged that the government avoids discussing issues linked to public expenditure and price rise while continuing to promote its own achievements.
Kharge’s comments come at a time when political exchanges between the ruling BJP and opposition parties have intensified ahead of several important political developments in the country. Inflation and the cost of living have remained key issues frequently raised by opposition leaders during recent public campaigns and parliamentary debates.
Prime Minister Issues Heatwave Warning
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to remain alert as temperatures continue to climb in different parts of India. In a series of messages posted on X, the prime minister highlighted the risks linked to prolonged exposure to extreme heat, especially for vulnerable groups.
He noted that children, senior citizens and people working outdoors face a greater threat during heatwave conditions. Modi also warned people not to ignore symptoms associated with heat exhaustion, saying that untreated cases could quickly develop into heatstroke and become dangerous.
The prime minister advised people to stay hydrated throughout the day and suggested carrying drinking water while travelling outdoors. He also encouraged citizens to help others by offering water whenever possible, calling such small gestures important during periods of severe weather.
Extreme Heat Continues Across Several States
Many regions across northern and central India have been experiencing unusually high temperatures over the past few days. Weather agencies in multiple states have issued alerts advising residents to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.
Health experts have also recommended wearing light clothing, consuming sufficient fluids and taking regular breaks from outdoor activity. Hospitals in some cities have reportedly witnessed an increase in cases related to dehydration and heat exhaustion as temperatures continue to remain above seasonal averages.
Authorities in several states have already started awareness campaigns to reduce heat-related illnesses. Schools, local administrations and healthcare departments are advising citizens to follow safety measures until weather conditions improve.
Political Debate Continues Over Public Issues
The exchange between Kharge and Modi reflects the wider political debate surrounding economic conditions and public welfare. While the government has focused on awareness regarding the heatwave and public safety, opposition leaders continue to raise concerns over inflation and household expenses.
Political observers believe such issues are likely to remain central topics in national discussions in the coming months, especially as citizens deal with both environmental challenges and economic pressures. The latest remarks from both leaders once again underline the sharp divide between the ruling party and the opposition over governance and public priorities.
