Trafficking – Jharkhand Woman Rescued After Alleged Sale in Rajasthan
Trafficking – A 22-year-old woman from Jharkhand has been safely brought back home after police rescued her from Rajasthan, where she was allegedly sold for Rs 3 lakh following a false job promise.

A young woman from Simdega district in Jharkhand was rescued by state police after authorities uncovered an alleged human trafficking network that took her across several states before she was reportedly sold to a family in Rajasthan. Officials confirmed the rescue operation on Tuesday and said the woman had endured severe hardship during her captivity.
Promise of Employment Led to Trafficking
According to police officials, the woman was taken from a village under the Kurdeg police station limits in Simdega district in 2023. Investigators said a man from a nearby village convinced her to travel to Delhi by offering her a job opportunity.
After reaching the national capital, the woman was reportedly placed as a domestic worker through a placement agency. However, officials stated that she left the house within a few days due to unspecified reasons and later found herself stranded near Anand Vihar bus stand.
DSP (Headquarters) Ranvir Singh said the woman was then approached by a couple from Meerut, who took her along with them. Police alleged that the couple later sold her to a family in Barmer district of Rajasthan, located close to the India-Pakistan border.
Woman Allegedly Faced Abuse in Captivity
Police said the victim suffered repeated physical and mental abuse while living with the family in Rajasthan. During the period of confinement, she also gave birth to a child, officials added.
Authorities revealed that despite the difficult circumstances, the woman eventually managed to contact her mother and explain what had happened to her over the past two years. Her family immediately approached the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) in Simdega and filed a formal complaint on May 20.
The complaint prompted local police to begin an investigation into the alleged trafficking and illegal sale of the woman across state borders.
Special Team Conducted Rescue Mission
Following the FIR, senior police officials formed a dedicated team to trace the woman’s location and coordinate with authorities in Rajasthan. The operation eventually led investigators to Barmer, where the woman was located and rescued safely.
Officials confirmed that she has now returned to Jharkhand and reunited with her family. Police have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the trafficking case, but further investigation is currently underway.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns surrounding human trafficking in vulnerable rural regions, where false promises of employment are often used to lure young women into exploitative situations. Law enforcement agencies have repeatedly urged families to verify job offers and placement agencies before allowing anyone to travel for work.
Authorities are also expected to investigate the role of the Delhi placement agency and identify all individuals involved in transporting and allegedly selling the woman. Police said efforts are continuing to ensure legal action against those responsible for the crime.
