The order, released on May 21, stated that Dr Aggarwal has been placed under “awaiting posting” status until further instructions are issued by the administration. Officials confirmed that the change takes effect immediately.

Interim Responsibility Assigned

As part of the temporary arrangement, the Medical Superintendent of Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital has been directed to oversee the responsibilities of the Director of Health Services under the existing link arrangement system.

The government order also instructed Dr Aggarwal to formally transfer all official responsibilities and submit the required compliance report without delay. The communication was issued by Sharat Kumar, Deputy Secretary (HR-Medical) in the Delhi government’s Health and Family Welfare Department.

The administrative move received approval from Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, according to the official document.

Political Reactions Intensify

The transfer has drawn political attention after Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti raised allegations related to the functioning of the health department.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Bharti claimed he had previously approached the Delhi government’s Chief Secretary in June last year regarding alleged irregularities connected to Dr Aggarwal, who was then serving as Director General of Health Services.

According to Bharti, the complaint was based on inputs he had received from senior government officials. He further stated that although an inquiry was reportedly initiated following his complaint, no detailed findings or updates were later communicated to him.

Allegations of Financial Irregularities

Bharti also alleged that authorities later uncovered a financial scam involving hundreds of crores within the Delhi Health Ministry. He claimed the Lieutenant Governor subsequently removed Dr Aggarwal after these alleged irregularities surfaced.

However, no official statement from the Delhi government has publicly confirmed the existence or scale of any such financial misconduct at this stage.

The AAP leader urged authorities to conduct a detailed and transparent investigation into the matter. He further stated that identifying the individuals allegedly responsible for any misuse of public money would be essential for accountability within the health administration system.

Administrative Changes Under Watch

The latest development comes at a time when administrative functioning and governance within Delhi’s healthcare system remain under close public and political scrutiny. Transfers involving senior officials in key departments often attract attention because of their impact on policy implementation and hospital management across the national capital.

So far, the Delhi government has not released additional details explaining the reasons behind the immediate transfer order. Officials also have not clarified when a permanent replacement for the Director of Health Services position will be appointed.

The case is expected to remain politically significant in the coming days, particularly if further details emerge regarding the allegations mentioned by opposition and ruling party leaders.
