Politics – Rahul Gandhi Targets BJP Leadership During Raebareli Public Meeting

Politics – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensified his criticism of the central government during a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh, accusing the ruling establishment of weakening democratic institutions and ignoring the struggles of ordinary citizens.

Rahul gandhi bjp raebareli clash

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh while addressing a large gathering in Raebareli on Wednesday. Speaking during the “Bahujan Swabhiman Sabha” organised in memory of local freedom fighter Veera Pasi, Gandhi alleged that the country’s constitutional framework was under continuous pressure from the present leadership.

Strong Remarks at Raebareli Event

The Congress leader, who represents Raebareli in the Lok Sabha, urged supporters to defend the Constitution and resist what he described as attempts to weaken democratic institutions. Gandhi claimed that constitutional values associated with leaders such as B. R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi were being systematically undermined.

He told the audience that merely paying tribute to national icons was not enough unless people actively protected the ideals they stood for, including equality, justice and social harmony. Gandhi also said that future leaders representing marginalised communities would emerge from among ordinary citizens rather than established elites.

Inflation and Economic Concerns Raised

During his speech, Gandhi warned about possible economic difficulties in the coming months. He claimed that global tensions involving Iran and the United States could affect oil supplies and eventually increase the prices of fuel, cooking gas and essential commodities in India.

According to Gandhi, farmers could also face shortages of fertilisers and other necessities if international conditions worsen. He alleged that the economic burden of inflation would mainly affect middle-class families, labourers and farmers, while large industrial groups would remain protected.

The Congress MP further referred to recent appeals by the prime minister encouraging people to reduce fuel consumption, overseas travel and purchases of gold. Gandhi argued that such statements reflected concerns over the country’s economic direction.

Allegations Over Corporate Influence

Rahul Gandhi accused the government of favouring a small group of industrialists at the expense of the public. Without presenting evidence, he alleged that major business houses had gained disproportionate influence over the economy under the current administration.

He also criticised the government’s privatisation policies and claimed that public sector institutions, reservation policies and independent constitutional bodies had weakened over time. Gandhi alleged that appointments in educational institutions were increasingly being influenced by ideological affiliations instead of merit.

The Congress leader further questioned the government’s handling of economic decisions such as demonetisation and the Covid-19 lockdown, saying common citizens had suffered financial hardship during both periods.

Concerns Over Electoral Process

In his address, Gandhi also raised concerns regarding electoral roll revisions and voter deletions. He alleged that democratic safeguards were being compromised and claimed that voters opposing the ruling party were being unfairly removed from electoral lists.

According to him, the Constitution guarantees equal voting rights to every citizen, and any attempt to dilute that principle would damage democratic values. Gandhi repeated that citizens would need to remain vigilant to safeguard constitutional institutions.

BJP Responds to Remarks

The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly criticised Gandhi’s comments soon after the speech. Party leaders described his statements as irresponsible and accused him of using divisive language for political purposes.

Despite the political exchange, the rally drew significant public attention in Raebareli, a constituency closely associated with the Congress party for decades. Gandhi’s visit is being viewed as part of the party’s broader outreach campaign ahead of upcoming political contests in several states.

The Congress leader concluded his address by urging people to remain united in defence of constitutional values and democratic principles, stating that slogans alone would not be enough without active public participation.
