Aviation safety tehri helicopter emergency landing

A private helicopter transporting a Delhi-based family from Badrinath Dham was forced to land urgently in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district on Wednesday morning after a mechanical issue surfaced during the flight. Authorities confirmed that every passenger, including the pilot, remained safe following the incident.

The helicopter belonged to Trans Bharat Aviation and was travelling from Badrinath to Dehradun when the problem was detected. Officials stated that the passengers were members of a single family from Punjabi Bagh in Delhi who had been returning after visiting the Himalayan shrine.

Technical Issue Reported Mid-Flight

According to preliminary information shared by local authorities, the helicopter encountered a technical snag while flying above the Chamba-Arakot region at around 8:30 am. After identifying the issue, the pilot decided to carry out an emergency landing to avoid further risk.

The aircraft eventually landed in an agricultural field near Nawagaon in the Satyo-Saklana area of Tehri district. Witnesses in the area reported seeing the helicopter descend rapidly before touching down safely in the open field.

Officials praised the pilot’s quick response, saying the decision to land immediately helped prevent a more serious situation. Emergency response teams were informed shortly after the landing and reached the site without delay.

Helicopter Damaged After Contact With Power Line

Authorities said the rear portion of the helicopter sustained damage after reportedly coming into contact with a high-tension electricity line during the emergency manoeuvre. Visual inspection at the site showed damage to the tail section of the aircraft.

Despite the impact, no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew members. Local police and administrative teams secured the area soon after the landing to ensure public safety and assist those onboard.

The incident caused temporary concern among residents in the surrounding villages, though officials later confirmed that the situation was fully under control. Power supply officials were also informed about the reported contact with the transmission line.

Investigation Underway Into Incident

Senior officials said aviation authorities and local administration have started a detailed investigation to determine the exact reason behind the technical malfunction. Engineers are expected to examine the helicopter thoroughly before any further operation is allowed.

The Char Dham pilgrimage season in Uttarakhand witnesses heavy helicopter traffic every year, especially on routes connecting major pilgrimage centres such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Dehradun. Aviation safety remains a key concern during the yatra period due to challenging weather and mountainous terrain.

Authorities have assured that all necessary protocols are being followed in the ongoing inquiry. Further updates are expected after technical teams submit their inspection reports.

The safe evacuation of all passengers has brought relief to both local officials and the families involved. No casualties or serious injuries were reported in the incident.
