Diplomacy – Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an enthusiastic reception from members of the Indian community in the Netherlands during his ongoing official visit to the European nation. The welcoming event featured several traditional Indian cultural performances, reflecting the strong connection between the Indian diaspora and their roots.

The Prime Minister shared moments from the gathering through posts on social media platform X, where he described the reception as memorable and heartfelt. According to his posts, artists presented classical dance performances representing different regions of India, including Kathak, Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam. A Garba performance was also part of the cultural programme attended by members of the Indian community.
Cultural Showcase Highlights Diaspora Connection
The event served as an example of the cultural diversity maintained by the Indian diaspora living abroad. Community members gathered in large numbers to welcome the Prime Minister, celebrating India’s artistic traditions through dance and music. PM Modi later shared additional visuals from the programme, appreciating the efforts made by the Indian community in organising the reception.
The Netherlands is considered home to one of the largest Indian-origin populations in mainland Europe. Officials say the growing engagement between the diaspora and India continues to strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries.
Bilateral Meetings Scheduled During Official Visit
During his stay in the Netherlands, PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The Prime Minister is also expected to meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima as part of the official diplomatic agenda.
Apart from government-level meetings, PM Modi is likely to interact with business leaders and professionals from various sectors. Officials believe these engagements could open further opportunities for cooperation in trade, technology, innovation, and investment.

Focus on Trade, Technology and Innovation
PM Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday evening as part of a broader multi-country European visit aimed at strengthening India’s strategic and economic partnerships. His current trip marks his second official visit to the Netherlands after his earlier visit in 2017.
Welcoming the Prime Minister’s arrival, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted a message on X, stating that the visit would help deepen the multifaceted partnership between the two nations and strengthen engagement with the Indian diaspora.
Earlier, senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the growing depth of India-Netherlands relations. Secretary (West) Sibi George stated during a media briefing that cooperation between the two countries has expanded considerably in recent years.
According to officials, both sides are working closely in areas such as water management, agriculture, healthcare, renewable energy, semiconductors, defence, maritime cooperation, education, and advanced technology. Trade and investment ties have also seen steady growth.
Indian Community Plays Key Role in Relations
The Indian-origin population in the Netherlands remains an important pillar of bilateral relations. More than 90,000 Non-Resident Indians and Persons of Indian Origin currently live in the country. In addition, the Netherlands is home to a large Suriname Hindustani community with cultural links to India.
Educational exchanges between the two countries have also expanded over the years. Around 3,500 Indian students are pursuing higher education at Dutch universities, contributing to stronger academic and cultural engagement.
Officials believe the Prime Minister’s visit carries a broad agenda focused on enhancing long-term cooperation across strategic and economic sectors. The discussions and meetings scheduled during the visit are expected to further strengthen the evolving partnership between India and the Netherlands.
