Weather Update – Delhi Braces for Rain and Thunderstorm Activity Tuesday
Weather Update – A layer of clouds covered several parts of the national capital on Monday, bringing some relief from intense heat as temperatures stayed lower than the seasonal average across the city.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday, warning of possible thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall in Delhi and nearby areas. The forecast comes after a comparatively cooler day in the capital, with weather conditions remaining stable despite humid surroundings.
Temperatures Stay Below Seasonal Average
Data released by the weather department showed that Safdarjung, the city’s primary observatory, recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius on Monday. This was around two degrees below the normal level for this time of the year. The minimum temperature earlier in the day stood at 27.1 degrees Celsius, remaining close to the expected average.
Several other monitoring stations across Delhi also reported milder daytime conditions. Palam registered a maximum temperature of 36.7 degrees Celsius, while Ayanagar recorded 37.2 degrees Celsius. Both readings were below the usual seasonal trend.
Similarly, the Ridge and Lodhi Road stations logged daytime highs of 36.8 degrees Celsius each, indicating a widespread drop in temperatures across the capital region.
Warm Morning Conditions Continue
Despite the relatively cooler afternoon, some areas witnessed warmer-than-usual mornings. Lodhi Road and Ayanagar both recorded minimum temperatures of 26.4 degrees Celsius. According to officials, these figures were slightly above normal for this period.
Weather experts said the combination of cloud cover and moisture in the atmosphere helped keep daytime temperatures under control, even though humidity levels remained noticeable in several localities.
No Rainfall Recorded During the Day
While cloudy skies dominated much of the capital, no rainfall activity was reported during the day on Monday. The meteorological department confirmed that Delhi received no measurable rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am. The situation remained unchanged through the following hours until 5:30 pm.
Residents experienced a largely steady weather pattern throughout the day, with no major heatwave-like conditions reported in most districts. However, officials indicated that changing atmospheric conditions could trigger isolated rain and thunderstorm activity on Tuesday.
Yellow Alert Issued for Tuesday
The IMD’s yellow alert suggests the possibility of moderate weather disturbances, including lightning, gusty winds and brief spells of rain. Authorities generally issue such alerts to advise residents to remain cautious during changing weather conditions.
Forecasts for Tuesday indicate that the minimum temperature may remain around 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to settle near 35 degrees Celsius. If rainfall occurs, temperatures could dip further in some parts of the city.
Air Quality Remains in Moderate Category
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained within the “moderate” range on Monday. Official data showed that the city’s average Air Quality Index stood at 131 over a 24-hour period.
Although pollution levels were not classified as severe, environmental experts continue to advise vulnerable groups, including children, senior citizens and individuals with respiratory illnesses, to limit prolonged outdoor exposure during fluctuating weather conditions.
The coming days are expected to bring a mix of cloudy skies, humidity and intermittent rain activity, offering temporary relief from the rising summer heat in the national capital.
