Focus on Public Connectivity and Trust

During the inauguration ceremony, Scindia described India Post as one of the country’s most dependable public institutions, noting its long-standing contribution to financial inclusion, communication services and nationwide connectivity. He said the postal department continues to maintain a strong presence across urban and rural regions through its vast operational network and dedicated workforce.

The minister compared the postal system to a vital support structure that keeps the country connected, highlighting the role of postmen in maintaining direct contact with households across India. According to him, the department’s reach and accessibility remain unmatched, particularly in regions where other service networks have limited presence.

Modernisation Drive Gains Momentum

Scindia stated that traditional public institutions must continue adapting to changing technological and service expectations. He said the Department of Posts has been actively upgrading its facilities and expanding digital capabilities to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.

The newly renovated Nehru Place post office has been equipped with modern infrastructure designed to create a more efficient and user-friendly environment for visitors. Officials said the initiative reflects a broader national effort to transform postal facilities into digitally enabled public service centres capable of handling modern communication and logistics demands.

Investment in Technology Infrastructure

Highlighting recent reforms, the communications minister said the department has invested close to Rs 5,000 crore in strengthening its information technology infrastructure. Over the past year, multiple advanced systems and digital tools have been introduced to improve postal operations, delivery management and public access to services.

He noted that the modernization programme is intended to support faster service delivery while also improving transparency and reliability. The department has also focused on integrating digital payment systems and technology-enabled customer support solutions into daily operations.

New Services Introduced for Citizens

As part of the ongoing reforms, India Post has introduced several citizen-focused initiatives across its network. These include UPI-enabled payment services, OTP-based parcel and document delivery systems, and extended operational hours at select post offices.

The department has also expanded its guaranteed delivery services in major metropolitan cities. Under the revised system, customers can access 24-hour and 48-hour Speed Post delivery options in selected urban centres, aimed at improving reliability for businesses and individual users alike.

Officials believe these changes will help India Post strengthen its position in the logistics and public services sector while continuing to serve millions of citizens across the country. The Nehru Place facility is expected to become an important example of how traditional government institutions can adapt to modern service expectations without losing their core public role.
